We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
But... how big are their assets? If Walmart had to "cash out" they have billions and billions in assets. Google has a few buildings and computers. Most of their value is pure speculation. While I "speculate" that barring some mistake on the part of management or an unforeseen disaster Google will likely continue to be worth a lot there isn't much "there" there. They are a bubble.
Amazon has only about 1.5% of total US retail sales. The tech group is grossly overhyped, and their stocks are overvalued by an order of magnitude. All the tech news is fantasy, including the claim that they are tech.
This is the flip side of Russia. You read everyone that Russia's economy is the size of Spain's. Yet they do all sorts of things that the US, EU, and China can't do, like putting men into space regularly, or at all in our case. The reality is Russia's economy is at least as big as Germany's and may be as big as Japan's, and it makes the widest range of products of any national economy.
The reality is that the internet and media are filled with self-serving BS that has no relation to realilty. Everything is fake news.
