Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"Taking Care of a Friend’s Dog For The Weekend? Better Have a License, NYC Says" Ha! Now they get a small taste of the regulations business owners face all the time.
' LIBERAL TALKING HEADS TURN AGAINST THE WEST' That's not news. Been that way for decades. QUOTE: ' LIBERAL TALKING HEADS TURN AGAINST THE WEST' That's not news. Been that way for decades. Right! The left is a collection of anti-Western groups, not pro-gay, pro-trans, pro-woman, pro-black, etc. None of those groups are actually for the group they say they are. That's why Caitlin Jenner gets much more flack from the left for being "conservative" than from the right for being trans, conservative blacks are called "Uncle Toms", and why they form counter protests against the anti-sharia protests. And they do this while claiming to be for diversity, inclusion, and civil rights. re Taking Care of a Friend’s Dog For The Weekend? Better Have a License, NYC Says
Heh. How will they enforce it? This just teaches more contempt for Government. A good thing in my view. Re McCain
My dart board guess is he has 4 months. Turns out all his money and power can't save him. He is as frail as the little people. I wonder how the country will ever be able to solve its problems without McCain sitting in the Senate lending his wisdom and expertise? It's a luxury for McCain to be able to focus only on his cancer. Every day people in this country get diagnosed with cancer and their first thought is, "Oh my God, how am I going to pay for this??" They cannot put all of their energies into fighting the illness because they are forced to fight for access to health care instead.
I wonder if McCain will be able to easily see the doctors he wants with his top of the line Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance paid for by the US taxpayer. Think he's going to have a problem with finding the perfect specialist team only to learn that they're out-of-network and he can't afford them? He's been a long term CIA water carrier...that's how he has kept his past behaviors buried.
"Trump's Voter Fraud Commission"
This is an awesome show. The left has been rigging elections for decades and they are terrified that it will be exposed. They are pulling out all the stops to derail this commission before the commission can uncover the extent of their crimes. What is surprising but fun to watch is how the guilty eagerly line up to deny there is any voter fraud and simultaneously demand that it not be investigated. I think the investigation will go forward and that it will uncover substantial voter fraud in exactly those states who are trying to thwart the commission. But sadly I doubt any of the guilty will get so much as a slap on their hands. The science is settled. There is no voter fraud. Stop saying there is!!!
Exactly. That is all we will see or hear from the media, if they even mention it.
Why AREN'T Dems concerned about GOP committing voter fraud?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Re: Pocket knives and .22s
There was a time you could buy a gun at the local hardware store, Sears, or Montgomery Ward without a background check. Those were safer times. The progression was Daisy Red Ryder BB gun--every boy in the neighborhood had one and it (along with a pocket knife) left the house with us every morning in those long lost summers. A few years later it was a 22, squirrels and gophers didn't stand a chance. Then the shotgun...real wingshooting for partridge(ruffed grouse to be absolutely correct) and rabbit hunting with beagles in the winter. And finally at age 13--a Winchester Model 94 30-30 for deer hunting with Dad and Uncles at deer camp.
Winchester or Remington, don't recall which, didn't even put serial numbers on their ubiquitous .22 until the 60's, IIRC.
As for pocket knives, I only carry cheap ones anymore because I know I will stick it in my pocket one day that I'm headed for the airport. I was given a nice Swiss army knife as a gift (although I prefer locking blades) and I am reluctant to bring it with me on trips. Last ski trip I was going through the rented condo on a final pass before heading to the airport and spotted the wine opener from the Ski Trip Tool Bag. Tossed it in a backpack figuring I'd remember to move it to a check bag but didn't. Now I have to replace it. Darn. Better get on that. All this heat and humidity is reminding me that ski season is on the way. I arrived at the airport just before my flight was scheduled and as I was getting ready to check in I realized I still had my pocket knife. My favorite pocket knife (anyone who carries one knows that it is their favorite pocket knife. I quickly stepped outside and looked for a place to hide it. I saw some bushes and the ground was soft so I made a hole and pushed it into the hole. I carefully remembered where I put it and a week later I flew back and retrieved it.
In 1974 I was flying out with my 3 1/2" rancher pocket knife and it set off the metal detector. Luckily I was in uniform (Air Force) so I showed the knife to the lady at the metal detector and she opened it putting the blade across her palm but sadly the blade was longer than her palm. She looked at me, looked at the knife, looked at me again and closed it and gave it back to me without comment and I boarded the flight with it. When I flew back to The World upon PCS from Berlin I had a switchblade in my pocket. Handed it to flight crew upon boarding and they handed it back up deplaning. That was 1979.
Bought my first handgun at a Holiday Gas Station in Minnesota. All they needed to see was a paper drivers license (pre picture drivers license days) and your money. Over 18 was the age limit. You could buy dynamite at the local feed store...it wasn't the cheapest way to get rocks or stumps out but it was about the fastest way to remove them or at least make them smaller. Tell that to people now and they think it was the wild, wild west but no...it was just the Midwest.
My first thought when I learned that McCain's doctor managed to arrange a same-day MRI was, "Man, I wish I could get treatment like that. We peons always have to wait three weeks for an MRI."
I can't tell if you are kidding or not. I have gotten CT scans and MRI same day I walked into the doctor's office with a complaint (in fact in the same hour). I doubt my experience is unusual. Now the PET scan does has to be scheduled. They have it in a big 18 wheeler trailer and they drive it around so it is parked at my local hospital once every couple of weeks.
This is good.
via Ace QUOTE: In 1992 they blamed the ozone hole on President Bush, and said it was going to kill us all. https://realclimatescience.com/2017/07/twenty-five-years-since-the-ozone-hole-killed-us-all/ They banned CFCs for nothing. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
Yesterday it was CFCs, today it's C02. If they were actually worried about "climate trauma" they wouldn't be importing 3rd world cultures into this country where they subsidize their consumption with "free stuff" all around. Climate change is just an extension of the neo Malthusian claptrap that they have enshrined since Rachael Carson and the installation of the Marxist Earth Day propaganda mandated in every government school.
Excellent point Indy.
Their carbon footprint will be much larger here than wherever they came from due to the higher standard of living. Rachael Carson's book triggered the outlawing of DDT and as a result caused more deaths than Lenin, Hitler and Mao combined.
