Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

America dodged a curare-dipped bullet that night. Still makes me grin....
I went to bed early on election night with the intention of not trying to find out anything until daylight. When I woke up around 3 a.m., curiosity got the better of me: I went to the Internet to find out.
Those 13 minutes of watching network news were the most network news I have seen in 25+ years. Having seen those 13 minutes, I can't say that I had been missing much. Schadenfreude: "They won't listen to us." Nope, Ms. Journalist, I'm not listening to you. As far as I am concerned, a used-car salesman has more credibility than a MSM journalist. At least a used-car salesmen is quite open about his mission: he wants you to purchase that car. MSM journalists hide behind the screen of "objectivity" while pushing a Demo/prog agenda down our throats. George Stephanopoulos an "objective" journalist? Tell me another one. I wonder if MSM journalists are aware how how many of us have a deep loathing for their profession. Trump's attacking journalists didn't change anyone's minds about journalists. Same here - first time I ever watched any MSM election reports. I am shocked at the bias. Historians are going to have a field day with the behavior of the press.
The fact is the Democrats thought they had the election rigged, but had a sad surprise. Even Obama, at the last minute, telling illegals to vote and there would be no consequences was not enough. You know they were desperate when they realized their schemes were not working.
I don't think Hillary, Mook, and Co had a clue they were in danger of losing. They believed the 'blue wall' of electoral votes was going to hold to the point that evidence suggests that they were more concerned with running up her (otherwise meaningless) popular vote total to avoid being 'selected, not elected' by the Electoral College. Shades of what lead Al Gore to lose in 2000 since I remember stories of how he was similarly going to narrowly win big EV states while W got big popular vote wins in smaller ones.
I remember checking the internet in the early evening fully expecting Hillary to be cruising to a win, only to be gobsmacked by the news that Florida! was in play. I still expected that at the end of the night the Democrat strong holds in the upper midwest and northeast would provide Hillary her margin but when PA flipped to Trump I did a quiet celebration. Agreed. The Democrats were planning a coronation but an election broke out. Ever since then, they have lost their damn minds.
I was confident Trump would carry it, mainly because I expected women to break for him yugely. The Democrat "war on women" rubbish wouldn't work. Shoot, there's no end of what I don't know about women, but I'm sharp enough to know what they want to see when they vote.
I agree, tom. It amazed me how many people thought Trump would lose when all the real evidence (not the fake news and polls) pointed to him winning. I mean, in January of 2016, nine months before the election, Trump was drawing ten thousand people to his rallies, and Hillary couldn't get 50 people to come to a book signing. It's sad, really, how many conservatives are influenced by the lamestream media.
Here in California I still have a schadenboner. Huuuuuugely.
Not sad. I'm in Cali and my sister in Washington state was not going to watch the results. I watched FOX late till the election was called. Then I called her.
"Did you hear?" "No" --- You could hear the fear in her voice. "He won". "WHAT!" "He won!" "O that's so great!" That was one of the best phone conversations we've ever had. :) I was in a meeting the next day where most everyone was ranting and raving and crying and saying the world would end. At the other end of the table was someone I highly suspected was a fellow Deplorable. I gave him the Thumbs Up sign from under the table where only he could see it. He gave me a Thumbs Up sign back. We both had a hard time refraining from breaking out laughing.
I predict that I will be a very old woman and still enjoy watching those videos from election night. They just make me so happy
I couldn't bear to watch coverage on election night. I didn't have the hots for Trump so much as I despised everything Clinton, MSM and Democrats. I got up and was drinking coffee when my wife appeared and said " Guess who isn't moving back to the White House?" I was so shocked and happy I couldn't speak. For me all Trump had to do was not be HRC and it was a win.
So far he has surprised me in a good way. Pretty much what Whitney said. These never get old. My wife and I are long time political junkies; we had not much hope of Clinton losing, though I kept thinking back to the GOP taking the House in 1994 against all odds. So it was fascinating to watch it unfold.
Gorsuch is now on SCOTUS, and Trump will likely get two more picks. That, to me, was the key to the election. I still have the election night from Fox on my DVR. And watched it recently. The expression on Chris Wallaces face when he realizes that Trump could be president is priceless. Good times. Never tired of winning.
One of the "journalists" informed us that Hillary Clinton was the most qualified-or one of the most qualified- Presidential candidates ever. Hillary was a US Senator and also Secretary of State. James Buchanan was a US Senator and also Secretary of State. Currently, James Buchanan is regarded as one of our worst Presidents, if not the worst.
That tells me that particular "journalist" was an ignorant twit. No Presidential candidate would like to be compared to James Buchanan. Yet that was the comparison the "journalist" was implicitly making. Thanks, enjoyed it almost as much as I did election night.
Also reminded me of the "savvy" (i.e. Foolish) market timers who rushed to sell stocks that night, not only selling when the market was down, but missing out on the huge "Trump rally". Let's hope they were Democratic donors. |
