We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The Atlantic Cod population of the western Atlantic was essentially extinct from overfishing. With a moratorium, it has recovered a bit but I have not seen a Cod from Cape Cod in many years.
My mother used to prepare salt cod. It was "ok" but not great. She would soak it over night and refresh the water a couple times during the day. Not too bad in "chowda" but not too good breaded and fried. Kinda chewy. BUT it came in these really cool wooden boxes with a slide lid. Me and my brother would fight over who would get the box. I must have had a couple dozen of these at one time. Don't have any idea what happened to them. The salt cod was so cheap back then that I think the box was worth more than the fish.
