We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Should be "How I Was Tricked Into Clicking A Link To A Big Bag Of Fertilizer".

The gist of the piece is that conservatives simply oppose this fine bill that would allow low-cost hearing aids to be sold OTC just like reading glasses simply because it has Elizabeth Warren's name on it. No, the bill itself is the trick - low-cost hearing aids are already available OTC, it's just that they can't be called "hearing aids" since hearing aids are medical devices, they're sold as personal audio amplification devices or some such. What Warren's bill would do would make these cheap devices subject to FDA regulation and drive up the price, drive some producers out of the market, stifle competition and innovation in digital technology. Seriously, just go on Amazon and search for "hearing amplifiers". That's the free market Warren wants leashed by the FDA.

And I'm not even going to go into whether this Jazz Shaw person who wrote this steaming pile is a liar or an idiot.

Yes, there is such a thing as casual chat, but for this president all decorum is out the window and people leak lies and half-truths all over the place. Wouldn't matter if Trump had conversations or not, they'd still make crap up. They despise him that much.

We will know how much how far Trump/Sessions wants to drain the swamp when we find out whether anything is done about Lynch's manipulation of the head of the FBI as well what is done to that same head of the FBI who leaked his own memo, apparently illegally (https://jonathanturley.org/2017/06/08/did-comey-violate-laws-in-leaking-memo/).

A little off topic, but the same concern could be said about what the DOJ plans to do now with the criminal referral of Lerner in the IRS/Tea Party situation to the Obama DOJ, or what to do about Holder lying to Congress.

My guess is they will do nothing mudbug.

I sincerely believe there are literally hundreds of dem pols, appointees and (mainly) bureaucrats that could be prosecuted for wrong doing during the 0bama years.

If the hated Trump administration went after them the media would spin it as Trump trying to jail the entire Democratic Party.

And when the dems return to power there would be the inevitable revenge.

I wish it weren't so but that is the way i see it.

Have so many break the law that no one gets prosecuted. It's a clever strategy.

This whole Russia stink is all about preventing the new administration from going after the hundreds of Obama lawbreakers. If Justice does anything now, the claim would be that it is just groundless retribution because of Russia.

Re; Media buries Comey-Lynch political assistance to follow Hillary campaign:

From Wikipedia, the Hatch Act prohibits political activity of government employees:

"These federal and D.C. employees may not:

-use official authority or influence to interfere with an election...

-engage in political activity while: on duty, or in a government office....

So, Comey was instructed to follow and assist Hillary's campaign, and he agreed and acted on Lynch's political instruction. Without question, both Lynch and Comey admittedly used official authority and influence to interfere with an election.

At the same time, Comey refused to state that Trump was not personally the subject of an "investigation", or even a "matter".

Comey has been the swamp protector and swamp fixer for Clinton's pay-for-play Marc Rich pardon, the Sandy Berger theft of classified records harmful to the clintons, the Clinton foundation pay-for-play, and the clinton classified documents criminality.

Of course the media will bury this.

Why did Comey testify about his leaking and his other wrongful behavior? The spin is that he wanted to appear "honest". Another explanation is that Trump intentionally fired him while he was away from his office, not expecting to be fired that day. He was not allowed back into his office. Perhaps he knows he left records, computer files, and other evidence, and was trying to frame the public perception to get ahead of it? Perhaps he is signalling a willingness to testify about what he knows, in exchange for non-prosecution down the road?

It is entertaining to watch the swamp repubs and dems go nuts over their own past behaviors, while making a permanent record of their hypocrisy.

Is College Worth It? Increasing Numbers Say No

More and more data shows whites, and especially white men, are being shut out of college education. This is mainly done through the financial aid system. Minorities of all stripes and women qualify for financial aid. The more "exotic" your minority the better in terms of being paid for your status as the schools compete for your attendance through financial aid packages. Whites and especially white males are penalized because they have to pay full fare, and in fact are financially subsidizing the deals going out to everyone else, thus artificially inflating their enrollment costs. A lot of this is directed from the government under the various "civil rights" laws.

Plus there is more subtle discrimination in terms of promotional materials for schools always emphasizing women and minorities and rarely do you see a white male in any photos.

The result now is a large absence of especially middle class whites from private university and college campuses, and that is spreading to public institutions as well as they are all being priced out of affordability through financial aid manipulation.

I have two boys. I told them not to borrow money for college and that being white males they couldn't get grants. I have half a dozen nieces. I told them to fill out the FASFA while they were seniors in High School and to apply for any grants and other free stuff they could. One of my nieces has two babies and I have told her repeatedly that she could get a free ride through college. This is just the reality of "equality" today.

I would mention that there is a whole other level of discrimination applied to Asian applicants as being "over-achievers."
