We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Va Pensiero, BD, not La
Beloved spouse was in Vienna one winter some years age with she-pup during the dress ball season, and having a special dinner at Hotel Sacher. When the orchestra started" Va, Pensiero", the guests in full white tie and ball gown stood and sang along - and wept. During Vienna's decade (1945-1955) under Stalin's oppressive dominion, singing "Va, Pensiero" was their heart-felt longing for freedom. I visited Vienna with Mom in 1956, and vividly remember the shadows of oppression in the light of their new freedom following both Stalin and, of course, Hitler.
