Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Impeachment Fever/Suicide Pact:
I just saw 5 minutes of network news for the first time in months. It's nuts. These people are dangerously unhinged. I don't think they comprehend the consequences of attempting this coup. They're opening the door to full-blown 3rd world type political violence whether they succeed or not. Thats what the left wants. Thats what the left always wants...chaos and destruction, so they have a large hand in rebuilding it to what they prefer. It's the only way for them to succeed. If society is chugging along happily, they have no chance...so the try to create the environment that justifies destruction.
Its all they know. QUOTE: Hillary's team concocted the "Russia collusion" hoax within twenty-four hours of her defeat. • Russian agents hacked into a major U.S. political party, then designed the release for maximum political impact. • Trump's campaign manager resigned after allegations of cash payments while working for the Russia-backed Ukrainian government. • The acting Attorney General was fired days after warming the Trump Administration about the NSA Director's ties to Russia. • Trump's NSA Director was fired for lying about his contacts with Russia. • The FBI Director was fired because of his investigation of Russian links to the Trump campaign. This is not a hoax, but a significant issue that needs to be investigated. • Russian agents hacked into a major U.S. political party, then designed the release for maximum political impact.
No proof provided to show this at all. In fact, evidence that Seth Rich was the leaker of the DNC emails, as evidenced by two separate sources: PI in D.C. and Malia Zimmerman FBI source. • Trump's campaign manager resigned after allegations of cash payments while working for the Russia-backed Ukrainian government. They also were hiring other people and Manafort had done the job he was hired to do. • The acting Attorney General was fired days after warming the Trump Administration about the NSA Director's ties to Russia. She was a lefty hack. She refused to defend Trump's perfectly legal EO on visas and then was fired. Try again. • Trump's NSA Director was fired for lying about his contacts with Russia. He was fired b/c he lied to Pence about the contents of those conversations. A Washington Post report from January 2017 stated the FBI said Flynn had done nothing wrong. Go look it up. • The FBI Director was fired because of his investigation of Russian links to the Trump campaign. You are ridiculous with this last one. Even the Democrats called for his firing last fall. This one is so easy to prove, and you know it. You are being disingenuous. MissT: No proof provided to show this at all.
The U.S. Intelligence Community and independent cyber-security firms have determined that the hacks were coordinated by the Russian government. The releases of hacked information was clearly timed for maximum political effect. MissT: In fact, evidence that Seth Rich was the leaker of the DNC emails, as evidenced by two separate sources Story on DNC staffer's murder dominated conservative media -- hours later it fell apart MissT: They also were hiring other people and Manafort had done the job he was hired to do. The link to corrupt Russian-backed Ukrainians remains. MissT: She was a lefty hack. She refused to defend Trump's perfectly legal EO on visas and then was fired. Try again. In fact, the courts threw out the first executive order. MissT: A Washington Post report from January 2017 stated the FBI said Flynn had done nothing wrong. Go look it up. Well, no. The report was that the "FBI reviewed Flynn's calls with Russian ambassador but found nothing". That doesn't mean he had done nothing wrong. MissT: You are ridiculous with this last one. Trump specifically told Lester Holt that it was the Russia investigation that brought about the firing. It is truly amazing what passes for journalism these days. An unnamed third party talked about a memo Comey supposedly wrote to himself and nobody else? So many layers of bs in this story.
And the Republicans - did they have their brains and their balls removed so they play along with this nonsense? NJSoldier: An unnamed third party talked about a memo Comey supposedly wrote to himself and nobody else?
Comey shared the memo with senior FBI officials at the time. At this point, the New York Times has not released the names of their sources. The memos are being requested by Congress. Also, Comey will likely testify at some time in the near future.

Sadly, the media, especially the NYT, have no credibility after the months of just throwing everything into the fan to see what sticks. They'll need to produce hard evidence. The word of unnamed sources in the government has no credibility any more.
Trust, once pissed away, cannot be recovered. It is no longer, trust but verify. It is now "Nullius in verba (Latin for "on the word of no one" or "Take nobody's word for it")"

Aluminum tubes comes to mind. Cheney's Chief of Staff 'leaked' to the New York Times that Iraq was acquiring aluminum tubes for use in a nuclear weapons program. Cheney then goes on Meet the Press, and points to the New York Times story as if it were an independent source for the information. They were played. The credibility and agendas of sources always have to be considered by journalists. In this case, however, it's quite probable that there is Comey memo, and that the memo is much as described. Not sure why you would think otherwise.

If Comey writes a memo after talking to the president then wouldn't all the memos he wrote after talking with Obama be relevant? After all if Obama was spying on Trump or if Obama talk/colluded with the Russians or if Obama gave the Russians any classified information shouldn't this be made public??? Let's see ALL of Comey's memos. Congress should subpoena 100% of Comeys memos and any and everything he did at the FBI. It appears that Comey broke numerous laws AND that he conspired with Obama to spy on a presidential candidate for the purpose of interfering in our elections.
It has also been stated by the Obama administration that they taped visits to the oval office so lets subpoena all of that as well.

How so? OneGuy: Let's see ALL of Comey's memos. As most memos concern on-going investigations, they would generally be protected communications. OneGuy: It appears that Comey broke numerous laws AND that he conspired with Obama to spy on a presidential candidate for the purpose of interfering in our elections. Reporting in a memo what the President said to him is not "spying".

What Obama did was relevant because he and his staff had contact with Russia too.
It is a myth that evidence in an on going investigation cannot be made public. Of course it can. Obama spied on a candidate for the presidency, a citizen of America. This was stated by Comey and it is illegal "Illegal" An interesting word since it seems that nothing that Trump or his staff have done has been found to be illegal. But spying on Trump by Obama was illegal.

Obama was President. Trump was not. • Russian agents hacked into Trump's political adversary then released the hacked information for his benefit. • Trump's campaign manager resigned after allegations of cash payments while working for the Russia-backed Ukrainian government. • Trump's acting Attorney General was fired days after warming the Trump Administration about the NSA Director's ties to Russia. • Trump's NSA Director was fired for lying about his contacts with Russia. • The FBI Director was fired because of his investigation of Russian links to the Trump campaign. OneGuy: Obama spied on a candidate for the presidency, a citizen of America. Rather, the government was surveilling Russian agents, and incidentally picked up their contacts with the Trump campaign. Considering that Russian agents were interfering with the U.S. election, this is of considerable importance. Z: This is not a hoax, but a significant issue that needs to be investigated. Apparently, the FBI agrees, having been investigating the situation for months, and now having appointed an independent counsel.

In fact, the U.S. Intelligence Community, independent cyber-security firms, and the Senate intelligence committee, have all found evidence of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. The open question is whether there was collusion with the Trump campaign.

No. We pointed out that there is evidence of unusual contacts between Russian agents and the Trump campaign, evidence sufficient to warrant additional scrutiny. It's clear, however, that Russian agents illegally hacked into the DNC and then released the stolen information to damage the Clinton campaign.

If Comey considered this to be an attempt to cover up the investigation he had to IMMEADIATLY turn it over to the justice department. If it is considered by the JD to be an attempt to cover up an investigation and Comey did not turn it over immeadiately...Comey will go to jail. It is more likely this is just handwaving by Comey to maintain the Democratic party narrative.
indyjonesouthere: If Comey considered this to be an attempt to cover up the investigation he had to IMMEADIATLY turn it over to the justice department.
Or turn it over to the FBI for further investigation. Maybe write a memo concerning the event.

"Minority students feel ‘marginalized’ by historic building’s ‘imposing, masculine’ paneling"
Well rewrite history!!! Find some minorities who might have been there, perhaps janitors or maids, and rewrite the history and make it appear that they founded the university. After all didn't a recent movie expose the hidden fact that three female African Americans singlehandedly ran NASA and saved the program from those stupid white men? Surely they can tear down those pictures of old dead white men and replace them with the true founders and builders of this soon to be great institution (who just happen to be black). We need a thumbs up. Good comment. (which means I agree with it) Rewriting does seem to be the way we are going now.

The True Story of 'Hidden Figures' and the Women Who Crunched the Numbers for NASA Wood paneling is "imposing" and "masculine", but the fact that the building itself is phallic looking is not...yeah, this is either a solution searching for a problem, or master level trolling.

How much money did the US spend This Time to bail out the island? It's Microsoft's fault. The security hole is a Microsoft-coded bug. When it's found, they're obligated to fix it.
It's like an auto recall. You don't make the customer buy a new car, just recall and fix the old one. Manufacturing defect, unfitness for the purpose sold. Microsoft noticed that their reputation for producing awful software was spreading fast and issued the patch they should have issued long ago. Simultaneous PR effort: blame NSA. But it's Microsoft's fault. Understand that it is inherent in internet software that it allows those writing code to do almost anything. NOT inherent in Microsoft or PC but in the common software used for the internet. This problem exists with Apple and Linux too. BUT there are so few Apple and Linux computers that the hackers go for the larger audience and THAT is why it is always the PC and Microsoft.
If the industry wanted to they could prevent the internet from changing anything on your computer. They could prevent this particular hack from encrypting your data. They could prevent other hacks from downloading your data. BUT the liberal and powerful code allows the "user" (in this case the companies who write the apps, NOT YOU) to pretty much do anything. That is what those companies want even though it makes the internet prone to hacking. You remember the popups that advertises use to sell their products and you are forced to watch or deal with? Those are part of the ability of the code exactly so that the "USERS" (again not you) can advertise and force you to endure it. So you get a popup blocker, right!! Well surely you have noticed that the popup blockers don't always work. Why? Because the code allows the "users" to write code that bypasses your blocker. Why? Because the code creator and the code user wants complete control. They know and always knew that this ability would allow hackers to take complete control as well but they do not care. They do not care now either. They don't care that they are complicit in this problem BECAUSE there is so much confusion and misinformation that everyone thinks this couldn't be fixed OR that it is Microsoft's problem. (Well in a way it is Microsoft's problem because they create and sell some of the software in question.) The problem is that the Internet is not safe. It has never been safe. But with every passing year and every new internet coding language it has become less safe. And that is because that is what they wanted. ("they" being everyone involved in the physical hardware and coding of the internet.) Those are bugs, for example in the browser; but they're bugs in the code that shouldn't be there.
Traditionally, stuff like failing to restrict the size of an input to the size of a buffer, called a buffer overflow; nowadays leaving dead pointers around and active after the data space has been used for another purpose. Sloppy coding. Microsoft is obligated to fix the Microsoft bugs; not the browser bugs, which are for example Firefox's problem. But the bugs get fixed pretty fast because the discovery-fix cycle is pretty fast, except for Microsoft, which simply drops support. And then finds its reputation quickly going in the tank. Re: Cost of dental work.
I think a key part of dental training now is how to "up-sell". Had to see a dentist other than my usual one recently on losing a filling, and while they did a great job on the replacement, they also led me to believe that all of my older fillings were in very bad condition and I should be considering other work as well. They gave me a folder with diagrams of my teeth and a 5-year schedule with all the work prioritized, and told me that it was all covered by my insurance so I should'nt worry. When I went back to my regular dentist, I mentioned the two items at the top of their list, and my dentist said "let me guess, they gave you a presentation folder with a 5-year plan?" "Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity Still Probably Doesn't Exist"
Probably true, but based on the severe GERD I get after eating some processed flour based products, there is something in the mix that is nasty. Unlikely the gluten as I can eat other flour-based products with no issues, but some like Cheez-its, or a biscuit mix I tried recently, are pain and suffering if eaten. oh and this oldie but goodie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oht9AEq1798&feature=youtu.be Agreed--no reason to blame gluten for something that might easily be explained by bacteria weirdness in the gut. On the other hand, whatever makes your gut go weird is what makes it go weird, so why not eat foods that you've proven to yourself make you feel good? Everyone's gut biota is different. In fact, apparently we can change it with diet.
General Hayden's comments should always be taken with a grain of salt.
He has made an industry of self-promotion since retiring; he shows up unfailingly on just about every US "talking-head" programme on Washington politics. He is represented by the Wylie Agency. He is in fact a consummate Beltway insider. I wouldn't trust a word he says. Unlike Gen. Michael Hayden, who transformed the NSA from a necessary but very intently focused on the constitutional dangers, agency to one that now spies on Americans with impunity and provides the collected wiretaps to their favored political party.
Apparently, McConnell isn't aware that the PRESS is creating the chaos. Not the White House. The last 2 'leaks' were not 'leaks' at all, but lies through and through. So there seems to be a problem OUTside the White House, Sen. McConnell. And it would behoove you to talk about THAT rather than criticize our president.
I work for myself - don't make a ton - but I can still afford dentistry for myself and my kids. Including twice yearly cleanings, multiple kid cavities, two root canals and two crowns (plus one replacement crown after bad dentist experience).
The excuse that dentistry is 'too expensive,' just doesn't fly with me. Sorry. Get your cleanings twice a year...even if you pay out of pocket, they are not expensive. Brush your teeth twice a day and floss every day. You need to take responsibility for your own teeth. Yes, some people are unlucky with tooth problems beyond their control...bad enamel, parents who didn't take care of your teeth when you were a kid, etc. But that is not everyone. Come on! Yes, the big stuff (root canals) is expensive, but these are not common, yearly occurrences. Yes and no. I to pay for all my dental. My dentist is not one of the cheapo outfits. My dental health is pretty good, at age 73 I have all my teeth (except my wisdom teeth). I have half a dozen crowns. Those old silver amalgam fillings do not last, they become loose, they allow bacteria to get underneath them, sometimes if they are large they actually act like a wedge when you chew and will break your teeth. When they must be replaced often a crown is the best way. BUT it's not unusual to need a root canal a few months after a crown. So that's $1200-1800 for a crown and $800-$1500 for a root canal. This is almost inevitable for 95% of us as we age. If you don't have the same conditions I described yet I will bet you are under age 40 or 50 or so. Just wait.
What most people do is since they cannot afford it they do nothing until it is so painful the tooth must be pulled. Then another one, etc. Then other problems and generally bad tooth and gum health follows. Yes this is what "most" people do. They then must suffer with it or get dentures. I am not advocating for subsidized dental insurance BUT I do think some dental work should be covered under our health insurance. Perhaps not 100%, maybe 50%. But make no mistake when you need a root canal you will not be open to the argument that dental health is not "health". No offense, but you are 73. Teeth age. That is when you will start to have problems. I get it. But this article was not written solely about older people. It gave the impression that dental care was just not affordable.
If you didn't read my whole comment: I have two root canals and two crowns. So I am definitely old enough to already have dental issues. As I said, root canals and crowns are not yearly occurrences for most. If you have cavities at 30 or 40, expect that some of those will turn into worse problems and save for them. Take care of your teeth with regular visits to the dentist. Somehow I managed to afford the 2 root canals and 2 crowns (plus another replacement crown I had to pay entirely out of pocket) without going broke, and I don't make a ton. I save for things like this. Everyone should. Even people making $30k or $40k a year can save for this type of thing. Root canals don't come on suddenly if you are regularly visiting your dentist. You can plan for it and save. I am not arguing with you are trying to dispute what you said. I would actually be perfectly happy with no subsidized health care of any kind; dental, mental or health in general. My point is simply: That we all, or the vast majority of us will, have dental problems and that dental care is expensive and directly affects our health. To not include dental care in health insurance while including gender reassignment and other oddities as though it were "health" related makes no sense.
Believe my I take no offense about my age as part of the discussion after all I brought it up. My point there was simply to point out what probably a lot of people never think about until they get old and that is your teeth will deteriorate over time even with regular care and thinking like the man who jumped off the Empire State building and as he fell past the tenth floor said "well, so far so good". My neighbor neglected his teeth for a long time and ended up where nothing would do but implants, if he wanted to avoid dentures. He got the work done at a dental college in San Antonio, where they treated him like a king and did brilliant work, to my surprise. Very reasonable prices.
As for caps followed by root canals, if the tooth is that bad, I'd opt for the root canal right up front. Much cheaper and works really well. Between the two of us (we're 62 and 60) we've had more than half a dozen root canals in the last decade, always paid for in cash. These are things you budget for before vacations, new cars, etc. We're just lucky that effective treatments are available now for tooth problems; that wasn't always the case.
