Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

love the picture. I will share it with my veteran students.
Found this in a link from another site: https://www.thecollegefix.com/post/32561/ I just sent an email to the UC Santa Cruz chancellor telling him he has helped us eliminate his school from the difficult choice our children are having to make about which college to attend. I won't send mine to any college that demands that they undergo mandatory diversity brainwashing which the students who commandeered a campus building called "mandatory diversity competency training". Spineless leadership. I was considering attending UC Santa Cruz years ago (over 25 years now), and when I took a campus visit as a high school senior I scrapped it from my list. Why?
We were given a tour of the dorms. They were co-ed, which wasn't bad...but the BATHROOMS were co-ed. Even back then. They did the same thing at UC Davis. I was horrified. No thanks. Scratched them off my list immediately. The campus itself was beautiful and the environment would've been a good one from that perspective, but I knew as an 18-year-old girl that the living conditions were not tenable. Dangerous Dean,
Agreed! Doesn't even need to be a combat mission. Preparing anything more than your locker and barracks room (examples I can attest to are my tank and my arms room) for an IG inspection was far, FAR, more stressful than any college exam I ever took. Heck, just standing guard somewhere remote for the first few times is worse than exams. But the combat patrol makes the point the best. Exam anxiety - GTFU already, snowflakes! Afraid of tests and exams, YEESH, what idiots. MissT - my daughter rejected a school (sorry, can't remember which) for exactly the same reason. It was a lot less than 25 years ago ;) She grew up to be a wonderful woman, well-married and well-employed. We'll see what's next. re: the ibuprofen (NSAIDs) study and heart attacks... There is apparently a reasonably strong correlation between inflammation and heart attacks. I remain convinced that mine was linked to inflammation. I was having problems with teeth and gums as well as just recovering from a nasty flu when I threw a plaque rupture. I fixed the fixable problem and do my best to avoid the flu. I'll take my chances with the anti-inflammatory pills when I have inflammation, thanks - particularly ibuprofen. California always had to be first with that nonsense. I ended up going to a private, religious school with wonderful notions about dorm living: separate male/female dorms. Freshman had a curfew for the first 6 weeks. Male students had to be escorted through the female dorm and vice versa after visiting hours (which were quite early). It slightly loosened up when you were a sophomore, junior, senior. But I liked it regulated this way. Made me MUCH more comfortable
Re: Taking ibuprofen to treat pain ‘for just ONE DAY increases your risk of heart attack by half’
No it doesn't. If you actually look at the facts the article only hints at, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/behindtheheadlines/news/2016-09-29-ibuprofen-like-painkillers-linked-to-an-increased-risk-of-heart-failure/, they're talking about prescription-level dosages. While NSAIDS seem to be linked to higher rates of cardiac incidents, it's nowhere near "Everybody Panic!" levels. Common sense ought to tell you - if you're my age, and can remember when aspirin was all there was for a headache - that the explosive growth in the use of Advil and Aleve hasn't led to an explosive growth in the number of people keeling over with heart attacks. Been taking various dosages for years while dealing with spinal pain, waiting to see if surgery is necessary or avoidable. My BP is consistently met with kudos from the administering nurse.
Next week a study will appear telling us all to take 1000 mgs a day, marinated in salt. "South Africa contemplates the abyss"
This was always the intent. There was always going to be a genocidal purge of whites. Then it will be followed by the opposing black tribes killing each other until finally disease and starvation grips the country in it's boney hand. Then the do gooders like Bill Gates and Western governments will send our money and food over there to try to save them from themselves. More killing and violence over the food and the power and maybe some truly stupid American president will send in the marines to protect the UN people who hand out the food. Wait a minute! Wasn't there a movie about all this? It is truly a sight to behold, the left going absolutely bonkers over the firing of Comey. My prayer is that some (all would be a most miraculous miracle) of the young, the ones that fight the indoctrination, have their eyes opened to the moral corruption of the left. Brake the chains! Freedom awaits!
I was in South Africa, Zaire and Rhodesia in the early 1970s. Zaire was a disaster with president general Joseph Mobutu and it didn't look like things could get worse but they did. Rhodesia and SA were relatively prosperous and well run, but that ended when the blacks took over. The blacks believed the Marxists that the white colonial exploiters had plundered their countries and if they got rid of the whites the blacks would become wealthy. The only black people that got wealthy were the likes of Mobutu. Everybody else ended up starving. I read an article years ago about Zimbabwe and in an interview a black was complaining that there was no work because when the whites left they took all the jobs with them.
It's really no different in this country. Look at Detroit, Baltimore, and huge sections of other blue cities including Chicago and St Louis. When whites move out so do the jobs. Just as the infrastructure in Zimbabwe and South Africa are reverting back to nature so they do in the blue cities. Flint anyone? It requires huge sums of money to subsidize those communities as they are not self sustaining once they are taken over. Our 20 trillion debt largely is the result of those subsidies. And now we need more "free" healthcare to add to the debt contagion.
I think the spate of faux "incidents" is nothing more than the resolution of cognitive dissonance within those who believe that society is full of racist-sexist-homophobic white supremacists and yet do not encounter them.
The Mrs. and I have conducted our own private studies. The most awesome sex has repeatedly resulted in the most awesome children, each of whom has grown into the most awesome adult.
Abortion is a most gruesome, unjust, and inhumane form of murder. "... Earth is on course for a “Little Age Ice” within the next three years thanks to a cocktail of climate change and low solar activity..."
Skip the cocktails, Skippy, and focus on the low solar activity part. Will we never be free of these credentialed morons? QUOTE: Global Quackery: Earth Has Not Warmed For Past 19 Years, New Study Finds We'd be interested in looking at the actual study. Does someone have a proper citation? QUOTE: This means the global temperature trend has now shown no further warming for 19 years. From 1998 to present, NOAA shows surface warming of 0.165 ±0.112 °C/decade. Inflammation can kill you...
Nonsteroidal Anti-iflammation drugs can kill you... Steroids (anti-inflation drugs) can kill you... Sound like we're all gonna die. Someone help me out here. Usually you take NSIDs for pain, to lower body temperature and sometimes for a specific inflammation. But when the organic long haired hippies talk about "inflammation" they aren't talking about a sprained ankle or a bump. They are referring to some unseen, unproven, and probably non-existent "infammation" that is "caused" by the wrong foods or foods with a high "inflammation" index. So, OK, I don't really believe in the whole "magic food" thingy but if some foods cause inflammation and some foods prevent inflammation where, exactly, is the inflammation??? Anyone know? It's not in your joints or you would feel the pain, it's not in your soft tissue or you would see it. Where is it? Can it be detected by x-rays or CT scans or do we just take the guru's word for it?
It doesn't help that sometimes "inflammation" refers to the body's healing process, which we hardly want to inhibit. Other times, "inflammation" refers to a state in which the healing process somehow goes awry and over-reacts, especially when the body starts to attack itself. At still other times, the speaker is using a magic word without any clear idea what he means. It's a lot like talking about the supposed effect of antioxidants, which, it turns out, aren't working at all the way we once thought they did.
