Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Hillary re Comey and Wikileaks. Whatever else one might say about use of Wikileaks, or proper function of the FBI, or timing, and all those other interesting questions, the simple fact remains that no one made any of this up. They played the cards that she dealt. Further discussions of all of it might be warranted - but not with a person who cannot or will not absorb this central point.
Interestingly, this morning took the online anti bribery refresher course mandated by my employer. One of the examples of bribery they give is 'excessive speaking fees'. Yup
It's getting to be more and more fun to wear my official Wikileaks tee shirt. I get some long stares. Anyone who has dealt with government contracting knows there are all sorts of disclaimers and representations you have to sign, under penalty of perjury and prosecution, that say you have not taken or given any kickbacks or improper payments, have not colluded with the contracting officer, no payments beyond the services called for, etc. etc. etc. I was looking at one of those, a Navy lease contract, just yesterday. For someone like Hillary to act like she is not aware of all the restrictions is just ludicrous. I will be quite upset if the new Justice Department does not prosecute her for all her crimes, but right now it is looking like Trump is not doing anything.
The other one that hasn't been brought up yet although there are a number of media stories confirming it, is how Bill Clinton illegally went to foreign government officials after he stepped down from office and lobbied them not to support Bush and the Iraq War. He never was prosecuted for that. And then they have the gall to claim that there were federal law violations because people in his administration may have had a telephone call with the Russian ambassador? I needed a good laugh this morning. Thanks for this gem in the Hillary article: "I am going to publicly request that this administration not end our efforts making women's rights...central to American foreign policy..."
So we should do what you did? Set up a Trump Foundation and rake in pay-for-play foreign bribe payments from places that proudly stone rape victims? How are women faring in the Middle East where you created a bleep-storm during your term as Secretary of State. And don't get me started talking about how women victims of sexual assault "have a right to be believed" unless of course they were assaulted by your husband. Then they were sluts who need to be silenced (or worse). Hypocrisy is the ugliest part of humanity and you, Hillary are the worst. It is your hypocrisy we hate, not your fat ankles. According to the book "Shattered," Clinton settled in on this explanation within a couple of days after the election. She never admitted to herself that there was anything wrong with her handling of secure emails, so she couldn't grasp why the public saw her as dishonest or irresponsible. It naturally followed that any ill effects were the fault of the people reporting her activities.
Even the slightly more clear-sighted authors of "Shattered" failed to understand that the problem with the last-minute revelation that Clinton's emails had ended up on Anthony Weiner's laptop was not that they necessarily added to the FBI's security-violation case but that her habits could be that lax in the first place, and that she could have surrounded herself with people like Weiner who would be the recipients of her careless leakage. Talk about vulnerability to blackmail! Affordable Housing is a Supply Problem: WE will allow no new construction. Go away.

Re: Shipping and Handling of a Gigantic Space Telescope
I got a chance to talk to an engineer I used to work with who had gone to work for a company that builds satellites. He told me that the largest structural concern was transportation, not the launch. After all, the forces impinging on the satellite in transit are unpredictable in not only direction but also magnitude, but the forces at launch are predictable and in one direction. For a comparable story in a different era, I recommend "the Perfect Machine' by Ronald Florence about the construction and transport of the (then) largest telescope in the world, built on Mt Palomar. The era may be different but the engineering difficulties are the same.
https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Machine-Building-Palomar-Telescope/dp/0060926708 Doug Schoen on Fox Business the other day claimed that he thought the Democrats would take back Congress in 2018 because people 'hate Trump.' I was really confused by that. Does he not realize that enough people 'loved Trump' to give him the White House and that he still maintains a high percentage of support (98% in the last poll I saw) from those who voted for him?
His supporters are not going anywhere. And, in fact, the left should be terrified that they will lose even MORE seats in Congress in 2018 in states that went for Trump - such as Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Most House seats are pretty solid, but not in those 4 states. I think there are certain Dem-heavy districts that went for Trump (there was one in PA that I remember pretty distinctly) that will oust their Dem Rep b/c he is standing in the way of the Trump agenda. I also expect more than a few Republicans to be challenged in their primaries by Pro-Trump people...those that are NOT going along with the plan and are stopping the Trump agenda from moving forward. I also expect the Senate to be more fully Republican after 2018 as well. Schoen's comment is why FOX is falling apart. News readers parrot the wishful thinking of their ownership, which is all owned by the Banksters and their cabal of elites.
Trump's supporters are uniquely loyal given all the craziness in D.C. around the efforts to clean up The Swamp. In fact, they elected him because they are tired of the on-going craziness in Washington that makes fools of the constituency who must pay the bills, both monetary and in lives, for those living in Ivy Towers, breathing rarified air, with no clue of the angst in feudalist society they are recreating. I've read it's Murdoch's sons who are now in charge of the business, and they want to be "in with the In crowd".
The RNC called once again for money, and once again I had to tell them that their summer budget is a disaster and I will not send a penny to the uniparty. Our new senator, Todd Young, is turning out to be a copy of Richard Lugar, Ted Kennedy's favorite republican. There are still too many republicans that don't get it and need to be primaried. I'll send money to those that primary the uniparty.
I only send political donations directly to Trump. No one else. RNC does not deserve my money. They let their members, such as Ryan, trash Trump all throughout the election with NO repercussions. Ridiculous.
