We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
This article helped me to gain new empathy for people who suffer from anxiety disorders. Although she does mention at one point that early childhood traumas can promote anxiety in later life, the author seems to consider the source of her anxiety disorder entirely biochemical and the cure to be medications and coping skills. Meanwhile another article in the Journal this week says that anxiety disorders are skyrocketing among young people. I think the cause has to be found in modern life. I don't believe as many people suffered from this when they were spending time working outdoors and getting a lot of exercise. In 2017 we're sitting at desks all day, sitting in front of tv or computer at night, and sitting in the car.
