Interesting you are stopping feeding your birds. We're still listening to forecasts with the "s" word.

Most of the birds at our feeder during the winter have been sparrows, with some chickadees. But the robins, wrens, and woodpeckers are back. New construction in our neighbourhood has led to increased opportunities for the woodpeckers. Apparently some of the construction methods (I'm not clear just which ones) give a woodpecker the same sounds a nice rotten bit of wood does; woodpeckers aren't dumb, and a neighbour is already watching as he's had a bird drill through stucco and backing and build a nest before now. We're keeping an eye on our stucco, but so far it hasn't been popular.

Actually, the woodpeckers really like drumming on the metal structure on the telephone poles. Don't know exactly what the box is for, but it really resonates when the 'peckers get goint.
