Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Free Range kids- Lenore Skenazy's work is very valuable. Her site, FreeRangeKids.com is a good stop.
Tragic that this bill was rejected. "because they hate and fear black women".
This epitomizes the methodology the left uses to gain advantage. They scream racist, sexist, homophobe and xenophobia to cow any opposition. They are obsessed with race and gender but try to place that all on the right. They use race and gender shamelessly to extort their demands. Because we allow it to work they persist. I'm totally dismayed, that I now live in a country where it actually takes a law to allow for kids to rome around in freedom, yet illegal aliens can walk from any number of heinous crimes. Your livelihood can be taken away for not baking a cake. Your property can be confiscated, under civil forfeiture laws, at the whim of a DA, or cop, with absolutely no hope for charges to be filed, or even a trial. Wake the hell up people!
Civil forfeiture needs to be outlawed as it is simply a huge piggy bank for law enforcement and politicians.
The same goes for the idiotic laws governing parenting, which now has become a multi-million dollar business for social workers, foster care, psychologists, judges, some doctors and many other "professions" that have gotten control over their fiefdoms. I thought it was bad in the '70s, but it is outrageous now. When I was 8 and my sister was 10 my single working mother enrolled us in a small private school on the other side of town. We walked about 1/2 mile to a city bus stop on a very busy road, took a bus to another stop near a very busy road and walked another 1/2 mile to school. Every day. Alone. With ZERO supervision of any kind.
We had to know when to leave the house, how to lock up, and if we missed a bus or a bus broke down, it was on US to figure out how to get to school or get home. I'm sure today my mother would've been in trouble. Luckily back then (late 70s/early 80s) we, instead, learned all about the bus system and knew the different routes and how you could buy a transfer pass to get all over the place before we could drive. In 9th grade, I took 2 city buses to get school rather than take the horrible school bus. It was empowering. QUOTE: "I hope Susan Rice was keeping tabs on Trump’s Russia ties." One minute it's ridiculous to think that the Obama administration was doing surveillance on the Trump campaign. The next minute the Obama administration was doing the right thing if it did surveillance on the Trump campaign. There is no evidence the Obama Administration was surveilling the Trump campaign. Keeping track of Russian operatives is certainly something most Americans would support. Turns out that if you keep calling Sergey the Bookie about "that thing you talked about" and "to set up a meeting at that place with you know who", you might end up being recorded by investigators. Actually there is, and it's readily available by her own admission.
You ignore it and claim there isn't any, but that's just b/c you're a known, repeated liar. Or your brain switches "Spying on Trump" with "Evidence for CAGW." DrTorch: Actually there is, and it's readily available by her own admission.
You forgot to provide the evidence. "There is no evidence the Obama Administration was surveilling the Trump campaign. Keeping track of Russian operatives is certainly something most Americans would support. Turns out that if you keep calling Sergey the Bookie about "that thing you talked about" and "to set up a meeting at that place with you know who", you might end up being recorded by investigators."
Orwellian, hacknayed, and already tired talking point parroted by all (except for Lemon The Protector of Our Potential Insulted Intelligence ) Unmasking, by definition is an important element of the investigative spy game; i.e. surveillance. Your Obama Admin. is not charged to Investigate - prevents them from developing into your long hoped for Police State. Pretentious?Moi?: Unmasking, by definition is an important element of the investigative spy game; i.e. surveillance.
Sure. As noted above, turns out that if you keep calling Sergey the Bookie about "that thing you talked about" and "to set up a meeting at that place with you know who", you might end up being recorded by investigators. I'm sorry but you are just avoiding the evidence that is building up:
1) We were told in news reports that Trump and his team were under investigation and being 'watched.' That there were FISA warrants and that the WH had received reports on this. 2) Then, a Flynn conversation was leaked to the press. Where did this conversation come from? Why was a private citizen's name unmasked? No one has answers...but when connected to number 1, sure looks like the news reports were accurate. 3) Nunes views reporting that shows 'incidental reports' 'not related to Russia' show that Trump and Trump team/family were unmasked in 'dozens' of reports. Who asked for these reports? Who asked for people to be unmasked? 4) Susan Rice is outed as someone who requested the reports and the unmasking. Why? What possible reason could the Nat'l Security Advisor want to unmask names during the campaign and during the transition period? Of course Trump, Trump family and others on his team were making phone calls overseas. Not only did Trump family have business ties, they had friends, such as Nigel Farage, helping them with their campaign. Also, why WOULDN'T a transition team be receiving and making all kinds of international calls to foreign leaders and such during the transition period? Isn't that part of the job? Getting up to speed, making connections with people you will be working with in the very near future? NONE of this seems to say 'Russia related' to me. NONE of it. So, Zachriel, are you implying that somehow not only was Trump in cahoots with the Russians, but he was also in cahoots with all kinds of baddies all over the world and is some kind of James Bond villain? You must take off the tin foil hat once in awhile. Rice also lied that she didn't know anything about what Nunes was talking about with respect to incidental surveillance. Then it turns out that not only did she know what Nunes was talking about, but that she was participating in it. If she is so innocent, why did she lie? Did she ask for any Democrat's names to be unmasked? Since the White House does not do investigations, why did she need to know the names of the Trump team on those intercepts (which had nothing to do with Russia according to Nunes)? Why did the intensity of the unmasking increase after Trump was nominated?
mudbug: Rice also lied that she didn't know anything about what Nunes was talking about with respect to incidental surveillance.
That isn't clear due to the editing of the sole report on the issue. mudbug: Did she ask for any Democrat's names to be unmasked? She asked for the names of people making repeated contacts with foreign agents to be unmasked. She told PBS that she knew nothing about the incidental surveillance of the Trump transition team. She participated in it.
We don't know who else was unmasked. There could be Democrats who were unmasked too but we know if they were, none of them were leaked to the public.

MissT: 1) We were told in news reports that Trump and his team were under investigation and being 'watched.' That there were FISA warrants and that the WH had received reports on this.
Can you point to a news report verifying the existence of FISA warrants against Trump? MissT: 2) Then, a Flynn conversation was leaked to the press. Where did this conversation come from? Why was a private citizen's name unmasked? No one has answers...but when connected to number 1, sure looks like the news reports were accurate. Reporting is that Flynn was part of incidental collection because he was communicating with foreign agents. MissT: 3) Nunes views reporting that shows 'incidental reports' 'not related to Russia' show that Trump and Trump team/family were unmasked in 'dozens' of reports. Who asked for these reports? Who asked for people to be unmasked? Rice apparently asked for some names to be unmasked, however, there is a review process involved, and there is nothing illegal about it. MissT: 4) Susan Rice is outed as someone who requested the reports and the unmasking. Why? What possible reason could the Nat'l Security Advisor want to unmask names during the campaign and during the transition period? No one knows for sure, but if someone is communicating with known foreign agents, there are a variety of reasons why the identity of their American contacts may be important to understanding the reports. Keep in mind that unmasking is not the same as releasing the names, which are still confidential. Zacky babies, how does it feel to have your narrative destroyed over and over again? The "Russians are Coming" is clearly now simply a post hoc cover to try to justify the systematic illegal surveillance of the Trump campaign and I believe a lot of others as well.
Months and months of the Russian conspiracy and there has yet to be a single shred of evidence presented. On the other hand, we now know that Obama, through Rice and apparently others, was systematically and illegally spying on U.S. citizens for political purposes. And we know Obama was directly involved, because Rice said she was giving the evidence to him and others, and because Obama issued a last minute executive order trying to legalize what had been going on. Everyone wondered at the time why he issued that order, but now it is crystal clear. You have to wonder about the stupidity and hubris of this, since it is now likely to end up with a lot of people in prison, including possibly Obama and maybe Hillary. The only explanation is these folks were so arrogant because they were sure Hillary would win, and so they thought they could do anything and it would never come to light. It helped that they were backed up by the left-wing fake news media covering for the Democrats all these years, but now Americans are starting to see Emperor Obama had no clothes. The fact that left-wing fake news sites like CNN even refuse to report on these developments show that a major nerve has been hit. Jim: Months and months of the Russian conspiracy and there has yet to be a single shred of evidence presented.
Um, Russian operatives hacked a major political party in the U.S., then released the information in a way devised to help the other major political party. Jim: we now know that Obama, through Rice and apparently others, was systematically and illegally spying on U.S. citizens for political purposes. We know no such thing. What has been reported: • Americans were surveilled incidental to legal surveillance of foreign operatives. • Reports on such surveillance have the names of American citizens masked. • Names can be unmasked by request of a high-level security official, but there is a review process requiring a legitimate reason. The reason can be as simple as wanting to better understand the reports. • Unmasking is ordinary and not uncommon. • Being unmasked for one official doesn't unmask it for others. • Unmasking is not the same as leaking. • Susan Rice, as National Security Advisor, unmasked names on such reports. What is the so-called scandal? "What is the so-called scandal?"
Obama and Rice used that information through selective leaks to their leftwing media friends, to try affect the election. In other words, the Obama administration hacked the election in favor of Hillary. Leaking the info to the media was a felony. Illegally using the national security agencies and top secret information for political purposes was a felony. They also tried to compromise and cripple the incoming administration by leaking top secret information. This is treason. Jim: Obama and Rice used that information through selective leaks to their leftwing media friends, to try affect the election.
There is no evidence of that.

There is more than the "evidence" regarding the Russians, which at this point is zero.

That is incorrect. The U.S. Intelligence Community has determined Russia interfered in the election. Comey testified before Congress attesting to that finding. Independent cyber-security groups have independently confirmed Russian involvement. We even know the URL used to spoof Podesta.

Here's the thing. Anyone running for president would be having contact with Russians, Germans, French, etc. That is what politicians and diplomats do, the contact each other. So the contacts/conversations themselves are neither unusual or suspicious. So, if the Trump staff and transition team were simply incidentally "wire tapped" this would also have happened to Hillary's staff and Bernie's staff too. In fact the contacts between the Russians and Hillary would have been much greater since she was the expected winner. So where are all the wire taps of Hillary and Bernie??? And why weren't these considered important enough to unmask the name??? Logically if you were just taping the Russians and Susan Rice got all these wire taps she would have unmasked Hillary and Bernie just as often as Trump. Where are they??? Think about it; you get written copies of wire taps and you need to "unmask the American contact to understand the context" but until you actually unmasked the contact you would not know who it was and Hillary's and Bernie's people would appear as much and likely more than Trump's. Yet all we have is Trump's people who were unmasked. A truly strange and unlikely circumstance.
The ONLY way that could happen is that Trump's staff was the target. Obama and Rice and most likely Valerie Jarrett had to conspire to wire tap Trump! The never expected Trump to win in the beginning so they never worried about getting caught. But after Trump won they knew there would be evidence of their conspiracy so they had to make sure the unmasked wiretaps got "leaked". That is why Obama changed the policy about sharing classified information at the last moment and this allowed his minions in various organizations to do the leaking and gave Obama, rice and Jarrett plausible deniability. GoneWithTheWind: And why weren't these considered important enough to unmask the name???
They may have been. You are confusing unmasking with leaking. For some reason Flynn lied about his contacts with the Russians. Clearly if you read what I posted I am not confusing unmasking with leaking. If Ms Rice as she claims regularly unmasked Americans who conversed with Russians there would be a stack of unmasked communications from both Hillary and Bernie. She or any of the heads of the intelligence agencies could easily testify to that fact. In fact they would rush to the microphone to do so because it would help Rice and Obama in avoiding the appearance of having done something wrong. But no one came forward. Why? The only possible answer is because none of Hillary's or Bernie's communications were tapped.
GoneWithTheWind: If Ms Rice as she claims regularly unmasked Americans who conversed with Russians there would be a stack of unmasked communications from both Hillary and Bernie.
Possibly, but that doesn't make them public knowledge. On the other hand, it is plausible that Trump contacts created a concerning pattern, again something that may not be public knowledge. GoneWithTheWind: She or any of the heads of the intelligence agencies could easily testify to that fact. Sure. How about having her testify before Congressional hearings? Of course, Republicans have been delaying such hearings. GoneWithTheWind: The only possible answer is because none of Hillary's or Bernie's communications were tapped. If Clinton or Sanders campaigns contacted Russian agents, then they would have been subject to surveillance.

Regarding the Easter egg hunt article, the hospital where I work just had something similar for the children. Prominently featured was something called the "Spring Bunny". Presumably he was handing out "Spring Eggs" to be gathered in "Spring Baskets".

Subsidized insurance is still available this year. While the last insurer has announced they will pull out of the market next year, that doesn't mean no other insurer will enter the market. Insurance will still be available without the subsidy. Part of the problem is uncertainty in the insurance markets since Trump became President. There is one proposal to allow people to still receive subsidies if they buy insurance outside the exchange. Government as the "better" parent. We are all villeins now.
QUOTE: "The province of Ontario swooped in and took them from their parents, declaring that they had to be protected from exploitation." No modern, affluent society stopped having kids, true. However; Romans during Augustus' tenure also stopped. We are the Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Rome's Star Wars A New Hope. Similar undercurrents are driving the west starting with the defeat of Carthage (collapse of the USSR - no external enemy so queue internal fighting). They also had pay for play with foreign special interests, slave labor replacing the Roman working class, extreme wealth concentrated in the elite ruling class, corruption, ignoring laws as precedent for bolder and bolder rule breaking. Hopefully we have enough differences that it turns out better for the modern West.
