Because Europeans and the Anglospheric colonies - Christians (and Jews to a lesser extent) ran things under the old order. They succeeded in being wealthy and powerful. They were sometimes unfair and even oppressive. Just like every other human group who as held power*. The unfairness and oppression were not the source of their power and wealth, they were real but secondary. But people like to pretend it was so, because the alternative theory - they were actually better at inventing things, arranging things, and cooperating for trade - is unthinkable.

What follows naturally is that because their gains had to have been ill-gotten, fairness and reasonableness is not required in dealing with them. It is a common view among those who finish second that they were somehow cheated. It is a very human temptation to believe a false reality that says you weren't bested, no not really.

Which is why reasoning with people about such things is unlikely to be successful. They didn't get to these opinions by reasoning.

*I would contend that Europeans, especially the hated Anglo-Saxons, are quite rare in that they have actually ceded power to others for reasons of conscience and fairness, rather than merely having it wrested from them. Many cultures have had slaves - very few have freed them. Most cultures have persecuted other religions - very few have stopped persecuting them. Yes, we have not done all that well. But we are at least the smart kid in the dumb row - and there is no smart row.
