Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Apropos of "The Big Bend," I'm sure this one will be popularly known as "The Paper Clip."
Shanghai's second-tallest building is known as the "Bottle Opener" (surpassed in 2015 by the even taller Shanghai Tower).
https://clareontheweb.wordpress.com/2010/11/10/the-tallest-building-in-shanghai/ The bottom of the top connecting part is a glass-floored observation deck, allowing you to look down all around Shanghai, including straight down. It freaked my wife out; she didn't like it at all. The most amazing part about it is you can see all the traffic on the Huangpu River which goes through Shanghai. Nonstop barges and boats, hundreds and hundreds of vessels, constantly moving up and down that river. It's a good snapshot of how powerful and active China's economy is. Is it really Trumps falsehoods or simply the style he expresses himself through? All the top politicians of any country lie...they just basically talk down to people, giving the impression that they are more knowledgeable. Trustworthiness?? "Sweden, UK Germany don't have a culture changing problem with radical muslims...diversity is our strength."... " The world needs to change it's way to save the planet"..."That 20 trillion dollar debt is manageable"...."Our borders are safe"...blah, blah blah.
Which lies are the more destructive and should cause people to doubt the trustworthiness of who spoke them.."Obama tapped me"..or those other lies? "A President’s Credibility - Trump’s falsehoods"
Of course what is really going on is the Democrats, the MSM and the deep state are trying to scuttle Trump's presidency. They are 24/7 ranting about every tweet or comment Trump makes that they can twist to make him look bad. Bad as the story unfolds the truth more often than not supports Trumps comments. Now we finally know for sure that Trump and his people were 'wire tapped". Another example of Trump is right and the MSM and Dems are wrong. But in my opinion this is so much worse than the past examples where Trump was right. This exposes a serious crime and a coordinated attack on the presidency. This is by most definitions; treason. This is the deep state trying to seize back power. This is a collusion between the deep state and the Democrats. This is the blowing off the lid of Obama's illegal and criminal wire tapping of political opponents and it goes so much deeper. https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2017/03/22/freedom-watch-notifies-congress-of-deep-state-intelligence-whistle-blower-full-pdf/ This is bad and people could go to jail, high level people could go to jail. I don't think they will just sit back and let it happen. I think the fight will get even dirtier. My question to the press is at what point do they stop being stooges and useful idiots and start doing their job? We all know Trump is using Twitter as a way to get directly to the people, rather than be filtered by media. We know that Trump speaks in simple language, not 'polito-speak' or lawyer-talk.
Unlike Clinton who redefined the word "is" during his years of scandal, which was not held to account by the media, Trump speaks in 140 characters in words that are meant to get attention and be spread far and wide. If Trump had to tweet the exact nature of the 'wire tap' not only would it have taken paragraphs (retweeting a series of tweets gets rid of the impact), but he may have revealed intelligence information that would have been illegal. He did it EXACTLY right. "Obama" most definitely includes his administration...anyone with half a brain would know what he meant. In fact, most of us probably saw 'Jarrett' or 'Lynch' in our heads (or some other top Obama figure) when this tweet went out. "Wire tap" was in quotes so we know he meant surveillance of multiple sorts. And "Trump Tower" includes him, his family and his associates. Hard to fit all of that in a 140 character tweet. EVERYONE knows what he meant. And to pretend otherwise is just being silly. Nunes proved his tweet accurate and I'm pretty certain more is coming based on Trump's responses to last night's news. The tortured explanations about how he wasn't technically correct strike me as almost mentally ill: picking completely irrelevant nits with great seriousness. "An eagle just swooped down into the backyard and carried off our infant! We have to run out there right now and do something!" "No, technically it couldn't have been an eagle. Let me show you this bird book of the raptors who might be here at this time of year. And 'infant' is not the right term for a child of 18 months. What exactly do you mean by 'swooping'?"
I guess now that the beans have been spilled by the House Intelligence Committee that the Obama administration and the intelligence agencies were in fact systematically wiretapping Trump, his family, and his transition team, you wonder when things will hit the fan since hundreds of felonies were committed in the process.
"liberals have only fueled a resurgence of the mean-spirited tribalism that they'd wished to purge."
The article bemoans the fact that in Canada and other Western countries the 'Kulaks' are angry because their taxes keep going up while their quality of life keeps going down as an ever more socialist government gives more and more free stuff to new immigrants. The author calls this reaction mean-spirited and "nativist". They even fell back on that tired old claim that "we are all immigrants" even though our forefathers had to work to survive as there was no welfare and government handouts. And that is the crux of the problem; Can you have a welfare state and massive immigration at the same time? It is time to address this matter. Before the current massive increase in immigration all new immigrants had a sponsor who helped them find housing and work and was responsible for them if they failed to find work. We don't have that now, the middle class taxpayer is the reluctant and unhappy sponsor like it or not. And more and more they don't like it. Welfare is out of hand. I don't believe welfare works. That is, I don't believe it is a hand up or a path to work but rather that it is and always has been a lure to live a life of never working and never contributing to society. We must end welfare not mend it. End it. In Scotland that's still true. All new immigrants need a sponsor who will take responsibility for them if they fail to find work. And you can't become a sponsor unless you can prove you have the necessary funds.
Does Scotland have immigration laws separate from the U.K.?
this post unintentionally illustrates why the debate over border control is well on its way to being lost.
there's nothing inherently wrong with the presence of aliens in America, because there are two kinds of aliens: immigrant aliens and non-immigrant aliens. non-immigrant aliens are those who are here temporarily: students, visitors, certain kinds of business executives, temporary work visa holders; immigrant aliens are here to stay: green card holders, K visas, EB5s. the pro-illegal faction has controlled the terms of the debate. illegals are "immigrants". meaning the solution will veer towards treating them as "immigrants" and overlook better solutions like allowing Hose A and Hose B here temporarily to do scut work and pick cabbages and then go home after the scutwork and cabbage seasons. "immigrant" connotes a forest peasant grandma on the run from the local caudillo, or the DACA vermin, which are powerful public relations images that are not easy to overcome in the world. this is a different issue altogether if the debate were about how to control the temporary admission of seasonal cabbage pickers. control the terms of the debate and you control the outcome. meanwhile, H.R. 5, including the SEPARATION OF POWERS RESTORATION ACT, which would gut the Chevron U.S.A. case where courts defer to agency interpretation, remains stalled in Congress. Here's another, Bird Dog:
