Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

What's the story on our new tough-guy psychologist hero, Dr. Peterson?

Peterson should be an Honorary Prince of Self-Recommendation.


Fair enough, but he's done many more things than I have and at least he lacks false humility. Seems to live with a sort of reckless abandon, or maybe that is his persona. He did teach at Harvard for many years, and is apparently now his university's most popular prof because he brings life to his topics. I like him even though he seems like a prickly SOB.  I don't mind prickly SOBs as long as they seem to like me.


Here's Peterson's Self-Authoring Suite . Yeah, it is a self-help thing but it seems intelligent. Lots of people are stuck in their lives.

Dr Peterson is quite a man. His original video on the PC front, Fear and the Law: Professor Against Political Correctness, from back in September is so interesting. https://youtu.be/fvPgjg201w0

In it, he mentions discussing the matter of gender pronoun dictates, and fighting back, with colleagues in Canada and the US. Poignantly, many who agreed with him stated that the ratio of punishment (huge) to gain (minuscule) was going to keep them silent. That they would pay a huge price while at the same time that sacrifice would have little or no influence is a powerful thing. Very thought provoking.

And yet, Dr Peterson soldiered on into the lion's den, into the insane asylum of PC warriors, even though he admitted to being scared to do so. Kind of incredible. He could use some solidarity from the others who agree with him but are afraid.

Anyways, as a lady of a certain age, this Professor Peterson takes my breath away. It is like a breath of fresh air to watch his plain talk during interviews, in which he calls things as they are and identifies the sound of hoofbeats as horses rather than unicorns. (Crazy about his accent as well)

I am also charmed by the young people going for him. Laughed my way through a Reddit thread of memes made to show JBP as strong, warrior-like.

Peterson is a force to be reckoned with, yes, but it would be great if there were a huge rumble of like thinking professionals to come out of the woodwork and publically join forces with him.

You nailed it: Great thinker and speaker; fearless and cool when confronted; and a great example of manly virtue, hence the tightness in your breathing.
