We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime.  The proof of this is the fact that the GOP has no plans ready for the 2017 legislative session. They have been talking for years about ObamaCare and now we know they never planned to do anything. The same is true of taxes, which is the one thing Republicans like doing. They have no plans for anything, not even something symbolic. They not only have no plans, they are still staggering around in shock, not sure what they should be doing. Suddenly nothing makes sense to the people inside the bubble and they are scared.

  in a world where the scrupulous following of protocol is essential to maintaining the status quo, a break down in the rules puts everyone at risk. That seems to be Trump’s game here with the spying charges. The establishment has tossed out the rules in their effort to attack him, so he is threatening to further bust up the system, which works to his favor and to their disadvantage. it’s a foolish game the Left has decided to play as they have much more to lose in a world without rules.


There’s another aspect to this. Trump has fewer skeletons in his closet than any president in generations. In Washington, that makes him a very dangerous man.

Re the Trump wiretaps:

At some point, Trump will have to follow Erdogan's example and stage a counter coup. If hie does, he will have the support of the military. Obama has emptied out Gitmo, and there is lots of room there for him, Holder, Lynch, Brennan, Comey, Schumer, Pelosi et al.

The liberal media's denying of the wiretapping is quite incredible. The New York Times had already published stories from their typical "anonymous sources" in January crowing about Trump's associates being wiretapped by the Obama administration to find ties with Russia, and then this weekend they say [the same reporter] Trump has "no evidence."

Re ObamaCare popularity:
I was studying this weekend and came across an interesting tendency I had not considered before. When dealing with choosing between ideologies, people have a tendency to compare the ideal state of their preference against the reality, or even dystopian extreme of the opposing view. That is the Marxist sees the alternative of unfettered capitalism as the return to the Victorian sweatshop, the racial progressive sees the inevitable alternative to affirmative action as the return of chattel slavery, etc.
With ObamaCare, the idea of "free" and publicly funded healthcare is and remains popular, but people generally don't like the actual implementation. So of course the answer from the Left is to push the system further toward their ideal state of total government takeover, as they claim they already compromised when putting the current system in place.

I don;t disagree with your points. I do think that in the case of Obamacare as a foil to implementing single payer health care I believe that the intent of the left was not as lofty as you give them credit for. I believe the intent of the left is to destroy the middle class. The problem for Marxist who want to take over this country is the pesky middle class. Look at how foolishly they got behind and elected the vulgarian to the presidency. This single unpredictable act alone may have set back the Marxist takeover by 10 years or more. The middle class must go and the single best way to do this is the power of the federal government to tax and regulate. The cost for single payer in the U.S. will exceed all the federal income taxes collected today. Just implementing a federal single payer health care system alone will bankrupt the middle class and make them dependent on the government for their day to day existence. Then finally we will elect congressmen and presidents who will embrace the Marxist ideology and the fear of unexpectedly electing another vulgarian will disappear. In other words I don't believe there is any altruistic belief in Obamacare or single payer care at all and it is nothing more than a big step towards the final solution.

Considering the way fertility rates have dropped worldwide, the Pope can claim that his suggestion has been followed for the last 40 years. Does the Pope want a fertility rate below replacement? Does he consider the Shakers worth implementation?

The Vatican's behavior on Venezuela, where it pushed for "dialogue" with the government, when the government had no interest whatsoever in said "dialogue" except as a delaying tactic, has not endeared me to the Vatican.

But as there hasn't been a Roman Catholic in my family tree for centuries, what does the Vatican care?

The press has been misquoting and misinterpreting and what the Pope says for the past few years. I'm sure he has not urged Catholics to have fewer children for environmental reasons. We've always been required to be "good stewards" of the environment.

The saying "...you should not have more children than you can bring up properly" means that it's ok for a Catholic couple to limit the number of children they have if their circumstances would make it difficult to care for the children. That's always been the case too. This doesn't represent a change either.

Just imagine for a minute that millions of US citizens went to Mexico to take advantage of their welfare policies, take their jobs and try to influence their elections. Then imagine that Mexicans got tired of it and wanted us gone. Imagine the US government instructing us to ignore Mexican law enforcement and keep our doors closed.

I am sure that the world would side with us, right?

how to twist the argument the other way: the US isn't making anyone stay. it is a fact that the family will not leave with Gonzo which shows that keeping-the-family-together is a low priority.

Funny how the Yale students want their new $150 million student center merely re-named to hide the source of that evil, evil money instead of giving the money back. A symbolic gesture that costs nothing is so much easier than real work, ain't it, kiddies? They didn't get under Trump's skin. Do you really think Trump just so happened to tweet out about Obama or his admin's involvement in wire rapping him? Don't you think he KNEW about this well before the tweet? I do. Why? Because this has been in the media for MONTHS.

The way I see it, Trump was willing to let it go because their witch hunt had turned up nothing. The FISA court action failed to find any evidence of wrong doing. And Trump won the election despite the left's attempts to listen in on his campaign.

But when those in the IC leaked out details of the tapping (for this is what is must be coming from) via Flynn and now it sounds like Sessions, Trump went on the offensive with what he already knew.

That is what I believe. The press is NOT getting under his skin. Trump is not thin-skinned despite how the media has tried to portray him. He LOVES the press conferences. He ate them for lunch not too long ago. If he were thin skinned and easy to rattle, we would've seen it there. Instead, he creamed the press.

So, no, Trump probably had this information in his hands very early. Remember the meeting at Trump Tower with NSA's Mike Rogers? And then Rogers getting fired? Why do you think that was???

The MSM was all a twitter about Obama setting up a shadow government and how he was working to undermine Trump, even get him to resign or impeached.

Now such stories will be met with a much different cultural meme.

Now we have the innuendo by Democrats on the hill about "transcripts" being retracted.

Now the question is, if Obama didn't order the documented FISA warrant applications, who in the government is running this rogue operation? FISA is national security, not criminal, surely the President should be briefed on matters of national security?

Oh and I should add. How curious that of late, the response to the government doing something like this has been denial of knowledge or participation by the elected side of government. It was all done by the unelected, apparently unaccountable to the elected representatives, career bureaucrats.

Rather interesting they so openly admit that the federal government is no longer under the control of the people elected by the voters to, you know, oversee and control the government.

Because Rogers leaked. And Trump's been waiting for the right time to use the information.

I can think there were several triggers that caused this to be the time it was tweeted. There's the continuing insistence that there MUST be something going on with the Russians, despite a lack of evidence.

Then there were the reporters saying there were wiretaps of Trump. It's down in print and on the internet - there's no way they can evade and deny they DIDN'T report on wiretaps without killing what credibility they still have.

And they keep thinking Trump's the stupid one... I think they're about to find out just who's stupid, and they're not going to like it one bit.
