Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

It's interesting - the online political commenters are out in force over this one. The Washington Post article on this topic from yesterday had almost 20,000 comments.
Usually popular articles on the WP will get a few thousand comments, so it's clear from both the volume and one-sided tone of them that something may be happening in terms of people being told to post. (You can tell it's not just "sheer enthusiasm" because of the one-sided nature of the posts.) People tend to forget that President Obama and his crowd emerged from the Democratic Chicago political machine...which is about as dirty as they come. It's completely plausible that Obama's subordinates, after a wink and a nod from their boss, had Trump's campaign discreetly tapped during the election campaign. Why not? Why wouldn't they?? They had means, motive, and opportunity - and the stakes were as high as they come. I will be curious to see how this story develops. There may well be some truth to this one. Even if 0bama did this, and I think he did, will there be consequences?
No. Nothing will happen. Absolutely nothing. The next crisis/scandal du jour will come along and this will all be swept down the memory hole. And the underlying reason for all this is that 0bama is bullet proof. No one. Nobody is ever going to prosecute The First Black President for anything. Not even Trump. It was why he was able to run a lawless administration. And as long as they can get away with it we will see an endless use of such tactics. If this was President Bush, McCain, Romney, or probably any of the other sixteen pubbie candidates, I'd agree with you. And for now, I'm ready to say you're wrong, but I think Trump is less likely to put up with this sort of crap. I'm really hoping so!
Well, I hope I am wrong too mudbug.
It all comes down to whether they think they gain more than they lose by going after ol' jug ears. I think the calculus works like this. Trump would like to nail down 15% of the black vote next time around. 20% would be a dagger in the heart of the dem party. Not much chance of that if he prosecutes the big Zero. And one more thing. If Trump does prosecute, the dems will be prosecuting him for spitting on the sidewalk when he leaves office. My crystal ball is no better than anyone else's and probably worse than most, so feel free to disagree. Certainly, my crystal ball is no better than yours but I would say that the Dems have the press but Trump has the Justice Department (or will when/if he kicks the Obama partisans out). Between the two, I'd bet on the JD, but as you say, he has to use them first.
Say what you will, If the NYT says it's true, this one time I'll take their word on it.
Sam L: Obama Admin Source Confirms Wiretapping Was Conducted
That's funny. You'll believe them as long as they confirm your biases. If Eric Holder said Obama had broken the law would you believe him?
mudbug: If Eric Holder said Obama had broken the law would you believe him?
We would certainly consider his statement seriously. However, context is everything. The News Junkie: And what's so terrible about the Russkies anyway?
They're an autocratic regime that suppresses political opposition, and used cyber-espionage to interfere in the U.S. presidential election for the benefit of a candidate who then tilted U.S. foreign policy towards that regime at the expense of democratic allies. LWS: Which sounds EXACTLY like what the OBAMA Administration did.
If you are referring to the supposed-tapping of Trump's phones, there is no evidence such occurred, and it if did, it would have required a court order based on probable cause. QUOTE: Obama Admin Source Confirms Wiretapping Was Conducted A wiretap issued through the FISA court, which would have required probable cause. FISA warrants are only allowed as a basis for surveillance to gain information necessary to protect the United States against actual or potential “grave” “hostile” attack, war-like sabotage or international terror. Nothing like that is alleged so it's likely the warrants were obtained fraudulently.
http://lawnewz.com/high-profile/yes-obama-could-be-prosecuted-if-involved-with-illegal-surveillance/ mudbug: Nothing like that is alleged so it's likely the warrants were obtained fraudulently.
Heh. It's not as if Obama planted the taps himself, or went to the FISA court in person. There's an entire infrastructure involved in such an operation. Accusing the former president of an extraordinary crime requires extraordinary evidence. Trump is perfectly suited to find such evidence without having to tweet his outrage from his porcelain throne in the wee hours. LWS: Which will turn out to have been fabricated.
Will? We don't even know if the purported tapping occurred, or if there was a warrant, or who issued the warrant. Why is anyone surprised about this? The Obama administration is already being sued in civil rights suits for illegal monitoring of the media.
Good to see the Zachriel Borg is presnt here as well as on onter cComment sections.
I even saw one of them respond with a "We...." LOL Guess the paid-collective Zachs all have mice in their pocketses! Does the term "crack team" on the graphic mean that CNN's reporters are all smoking crack while they "work?"
Interesting juxtaposition between the claim of contact with Russians by the Trump team and a possible illegal wiretap by the Obama team. I could barely contain my laughter when Pelosi came on the TV complaining that since there was no evidence that Obama tapped Trump that we shouldn't even talk about it. The Democrats and their MSM henchmen are showing their true colors on this issue. The apparent double standard doesn't even seem to faze them.
GoneWithTheWind: Interesting juxtaposition between the claim of contact with Russians by the Trump team ...
• We know that Russians hacked a major U.S. political party in order to interfere in the election in favor the opposing candidate. • We know that Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chair, worked with the Russian-allied Ukrainian president before his ouster. Manafort resigned after it was alleged he received large sums of off-the-books money. • We know that the National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, lied about the nature of his contacts with the Russian government. • We know that Attorney General Jeff Sessions was ‘less than fully truthful’ when testifying under oath about his contacts with the Russian government, such that he was forced to recuse himself from the investigation. • We know that Trump called for the Russians to release hacked emails from Hillary Clinton. • We know that Trump called for the imprisonment of his political opponent. • We know Russian money flowed into the Trump organization in years past. • We know that other members of Trump’s team had repeated contacts with the Russians during the campaign and transition. • We know that Trump has refused to release his tax returns, and that there are a large number of potential and actual conflicts of interest. • We know that Trump has spoken glowingly of the autocratic head of Russian’s government while disparaging the leaders of democratic allies in Europe. • We know that Trump called members of the press “enemies of the people” for accurately reporting on the above. While not sufficient to constitute proof of wrongdoing, it is certainly sufficient to justify a closer look. GoneWithTheWind: and a possible illegal wiretap by the Obama team. There doesn't seem to be any evidence of illegal wiretapping. Reminds me of Obama illegally trying to influence the elections in Israel.
