Re: Tutoring in India. Fine for math and certain sciences. Where confusion on a particular point works better than a beaver dam at flooding the mental landscape with despair. But would I ask for tutoring in theology, psychology,ethics, literarary criticism, Renaissance history, evolutionary biology, art history, medical ethics, form criticism of the Bible, sermon writing, Celtic mythology, archaelogy, invertebrate biology, to name a random sampling of courses I worked my way through? It is my personal opinion that 99% of us just need to do the reading, stare at the painting hard enough, re-read the poem, work the problems, put the hours in. Tutors are useful if you're extremely stupid, lazy or have a genuine learning disability. Like cleaning ladies, they are good for motivating one to do the work before seeing them (for fear of embarassment at their seeing the mess when they arrive).
