Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

An alternative to the Honey Badger script: "Thank you. I'm sure we're all refreshed and challenged by your unique point of view."
I've stopped listening to anyone who wants to discuss me instead of discussing the controversy. The same goes for anyone who'd rather talk about orange hair, orange skin, ugly ankles, etc. Life is way too short to let people fill my head with trivial conversation. I've issued an executive order implementing a 90-day Facebook ban in the form of unfollowing a lot of relatives and old friends uniquely associated with this style of argument. I'll check back after a while and see whether they've reverted to the baby pictures and cat videos I'd prefer to watch. Regarding Ace's description of the new conversational dynamic with members of the the modern day Inquisition: I'm a far-lefty and I feel the same way.
Eff you. Sick and tired of these spoiled trust-fund babies hurling accusations of racism, etc., against everyone who says what they deem to be a wrong word. They've made their own bed, they can go cry in it. Of course they're never going to have to worry about how to make their student loan payments while trying to save up for a down payment - Mommy and Daddy paid all their tuition, and they will also be providing a future down payment as well. Bread-and-butter economic issues are meaningless for these people because they always have been and always will be comfortably taken care of. It is not possible to have a conversation with someone who is convinced that by merely calling you a name, or by automatically assuming you have bad motives, it means they have won. I'm not defending Trump to anyone - these spoiled brats can go read up on these issues themselves. If I had known Trump was this serious about keeping promises (quite a refreshing change from your average Republican), I would have voted for him in the primaries.
Good for you! I am proud that I voted for Trump in the primary and supported him pretty vocally since early February 2016. My state did not go for Trump...
I am so glad my instincts were right about this man. My husband and I agreed that if Trump fulfilled even 10% of his promises, I would be happy. The best part, now that he is in office? I think he intends to fulfill 100% of his campaign promises...if he can get Congress to support him. How refreshing. All the Never Trumpers out there need to get behind Trump. He is none of what you feared and speculated he would be. In fact, I would posit that is the most conservative president we have had in decades. Even more conservative than Reagan. Yes, you heard that right. If you haven't already, contact your senators and congressman about tax reform. Rumor is today that Congress is backing off tax reform until 2018. I have already lambasted my Senators and Congressman about this issue (all Republicans). Intersectionality: Combining two bad thoughts to make a third worse one.
The media doesn't honestly get it: Should be, The media dishonestly doesn't get it. Imagine you have a home and a family and you open your home to a few poor people down on their luck. Over time they disrespect your rules, eat your food, steal your money and bully your children. You begin to to regret offering them your good will and your home. But your 'guests' are inviting in their friends and they are even rougher than the first 'immigrants' you let in. So you decide to put your foot down. Not to kick out the offending guest... yet, but to stop the rush of people at your front door. But to your surprise your guests get angry and demand you bring in their friends and relatives. They become intimidating and take over your kitchen and living room. Your neighbors and the courts take the side of your guests and begin insisting that you take in and support more guests. When you voice your objection you are called names and told that you can always leave if you don't like it. You realize that you have made a terrible mistake and are afraid that it is too late to reverse it. Your simple act of kindness has been usurped by those you tried to help and while you weren't paying attention they enlisted the aid of your neighbors and legal professionals. How will this end? Will you lose and must give in to the bullies and suffer under them or do you move to another place, another country???
If the U.S.A. doesn't wake up fast, it will not exist for the next generation. All the effort put into forming a Constitutional Republic that set new standards for individual property rights and freedoms set forth by our Founders will have been for naught.
This video by Bridget Gabriel on "1400 Years of Islam History in a few minutes…" is a must-watch for all. https://www(DOT)youtube(DOT)com/watch?v=guXBTgAxhIw Our local city council voted on the issue of naming this city a sanctuary city. This is a very liberal small university town. The local students showed up with their world encompassing self- excellence and demanded that the council vote yes. Of course, the folks from the other side weren't at the meeting so there you have it--we are a sanctuary city. The issue of course should have been put on a ballot--but these things never are for some reason.
Our universities have been overtaken with $$$ from the Middle East oil countries for over thirty years, so our teachers and students have been steeped in propaganda insisting that the U.S. is evil and selfish. The progressive movement has also been underwritten by the .05% who want to control the world and figure pitting sovereign countries against one another is the easiest way to diminish the population and control resources.
My grandparents and parents spoke to this years ago as Nazis took over the German school system to raise little Nazis. Germany still forbids homeschooling. Those of similar philosophy have tried to institute similar practices in the U.S. since the early 1900s. Americans need to stand up against these movements. Germany forbids homeschooling so that parents don't raise little nazis.
Right, that's the exclusive province of the professionals in the public schools. Don't want to break their rice bowls.
They don't recognize it as Naziism any more, because they've forgotten that the danger of Naziism isn't just about anti-semitism, it's about totalitarianism in the service of any ideology. Even if you start with a good ideology, it goes sour fast under people too much in love with their own power to make decisions for the rest of us. I like this place. It's refreshing.
Some of the most intelligent, informed and polite posters on the internet. But even most of you haven't figured out, Turmp is NOT a politician. That's why we elected him. It bears repeating:
"And when they beg for mercy, I'll begin to reconsider. Or maybe not. Because fuck these people." I'll never reconsider. Because fuck these people! Sincerely, red NY Times Pukes All Over Trump's Refugee Ban.
Send the refugees to Carlos Slim's mansions. He certainly has the wherewithal to support them. "Trump’s EPA Secretary Will Have ‘16,000 Employees Working Against Him"
What one President can do, another can undo. President Trump can abolish the union's grip on the Federal government with a pen stroke. The ability of Civil Servants to unionize is allowed via an EO, they do not have that right by an act of Congress. Drain the swamp! |
