We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

While the SF to Denver leg is spectacular, ist by no means the only great one. The Coast Starlight from Seattle to LA has many interesting spots - really like coming down Cuesta Grade into San Luis Obispo., the Vanderberg Air Force Base, and along the coast west of Santa Barbara.
The Empire Builder from Portland to Pasco travels the Columbia River Gorge. The Sunset Limited through Marfa, Texas is soo Texas. Pulling into New Orleans terminus, you're only a few blocks from the French Quarter.
If you're beyond your 20s, get a room on overnight legs. The white linen dining car meals are included. The bar in the lounge car is open from 6 am until after midnight.
Besides the scenary, there are people from all around the world seeing America on the trains.
