I don't see what's unusual about this. It's a shame that this family isn't considered normal. It would be worth noting if they couldn't raise a family on such a large income. I raise a family of five on less than half that.

I'm jealous of their large family though. At forty years old, I'll be lucky if I can add one more to our litter. If I could go back in time the only thing I would change is to marry younger and start a family earlier.

I'm in agreement with you, not that I am envious of them, but acknowledging that children/family are one of the great joys in life- and we also raised our family on far far less than $110,000

1) You don't have to buy hardly any clothing for the 13 kids. Just keep using hand-me-downs.

2) If you make most/all of your food at home, yes, it is not that expensive. Especially if you are the type of shopper who follows sales and makes a menu based off of weekly sales.

3) You would not need much of a college fund if you had that many children. One income, so filling out the FAFSA, you would look very needy. They probably can get many scholarships/aid/grants that families with only 2 kids would never qualify for.

4) They did not have all 13 kids in their house simultaneously for years on end. Even if they had one child a year, the oldest would be 13, and only a few years away from being out of the house...

The most expensive part of this way of living is the food. The rest is not that much more expensive. Goodwill is likely your friend.

follow up on the story, he was an employee of a privately held company called 7 Delta Inc., which suggests that he was one of the shareholders (or the only shareholder). 7 Delta was recently acquired by another corporation (suggesting it was and is a profitable one), because that's how you make a lot of money without having a salary.

It is not the "nation" that is throwing out its sovereignty, but rather the "elites" who, having found the people resistant to being dominated on the national level, seek to create an supra-national abstraction to deny the People their natural rights and liberties.

There have been numerous movies about great heists. The greatest heist is going on right in front of us. Europe, Canada and the U.S. are being heisted. This didn't just happen or the result of natural causes it is intentional and being managed by the world elite AND the usual suspects. Imagine what China can do with an emasculated U.S. Ditto for Russia. There are many co-conspirators and useful idiots involved in all this. All/most of the left wing groups (including and especially the warmist) and the communist (but that's redundant). We have been conditioning and grooming our children and young adults for decades now to accept the coming takeover of their country. Most will embrace it, will march for it and will vote for it. It is such a good scheme that I don't think it can be stopped. I do expect it will not end in a bloodless coup though. I foresee an awakening and a civil war. Time will tell but time is short.

There is a small failure in this grand scheme. Australia of all places rejected the massive immigration that is central to the takeover plan. I am 50/50 on how this will be dealt with by the elite. Either they will double their efforts to install a liberal ruling class in Australia or they will ignore this pimple on the ass of the greater scheme and deal with them after Europe, Canada and the U.S. are emasculated.
Either way China is positioning itself to take over Australia and New Zealand soon.

Water law in the West is convoluted.

What bothers me more than the regs in this instance was that the pond was there for 40+ years.

Why is it suddenly a rules violation when the property changes hands? There is nothing worse than selective enforcement of the rules to delegitimize Government.

Finally, it seems there should be a statute of limitations of some sort should apply if Government is so incompetent that it can't enforce the rules in a timely matter.

Gee, I'm a western water lawyer and I don't think its convoluted at all!

These property owners are the type of people I've run up against forever: "Its on my land and its mine! Screw the system that has been set up to deal with use of a scarce resource over the course of a hundred years! Its mine and I can do what I want!" ---all usually expressed in an sneering, ignorant condescending fashion by what we call, "city slickers".

In the water-scarce West, water (most of which fell from the sky within the past 12 months) is owned by all of the people. A property owner is entitled to USE the water one time for "beneficial purposes,"---mining, milling, watering livestock, growing crops---returning what was not consumed, to the stream for use by others.

This Oregon situation isn't new or unfamiliar, its a product of the clash between property owners who know nothing, demanding that their rights are superior to others.

I see this as very similar to the situation of suburban property owners who buy land next to a dairy farm and then complain that their neighbors' cow manure stinks and that something must be done to accommodate the newcomers' fine sense of smell!

Too funny! Remember, in buying land : CAVEAT EMPTOR! Including hiring a water attorney to assess the status and value of what you might think is YOUR water!

I would beg to differ on whether or not they are convoluted. The article states you can legally catch water off hard surfaces and store the water. If that's true, a landowner could pave an entire hillside, catch the water, and be within the letter of the law. It is runoff either way, but in one instance the State owns it and in the other it doesn't.

I understand your point with landowners who are trying to put in an artificial today and have no problem with your points, but this pond was put in over 40 years ago and nobody had a problem with it. The time to tell the property owner it couldn't be done was when it was built. Were the heck were the enforcers all these decades? Only Government gets that kind of leeway and it's bullshit.

Caveat Emptor?

It sounds like you are suggesting any prospective property buyer seeking to buy an acreage with standing water should hire a rent seeking water lawyer to determine the legality of the body of water. This is one of the problems with regulations. The parasites come out of the woodwork.

Case in point here in Nebraska. In the 1950s the feds subsidized dam building on private property as a measure for flood control. Now flood control is not a priority and the state of Nebraska wants the water to run off. Dams larger than 45 acre feet in capacity have to be removed or their water pumped out if they are spot checked and found to be holding more than a tiny amount of water. If you don't want to pump your water out you can remove your dam but you can't just remove it on your own. You have to pay a soil engineering firm to "engineer' the removal even though anyone can move the earth back to its original contour. It's just a scam slipped into legislation when no one was looking.

Convoluted? Yes.

And in the case of the pond in Oregon it has been 40 friggin' years.

It is illogical. If the rain falls on your property and soaks into the ground then no harm no foul. If on the other hand you berm up a catch basin for the rain water AKA a sky pond and the water is caught in one place and slowly soaks up into the ground you go to jail. Illogical.

I could certainly understand the problem with any person damming a river/stream or taking water from a river or stream but rain water that would/might otherwise simply soak into the ground is a jailable offense???

Imagine that you are a farmer and you plow up your field each fall and leave it like that it will absorb rain water and snow to enhance the crops planted in the spring. All dry land farmers do this. If on the other hand they captured the exact same water in a pond and used it in the spring to irrigate their crops go directly to jail do not pass go.

Illogical.

The state needs to jail the farmers who impede the runoff by plowing. In Oregon every contractor who develops a plot of land with multiple houses is required to set aside a area dug below the surrounding surface to catch run off and allow it to soak into the ground. REQUIRED by law! Why not put them in jail or change the law?? Because the state (in this example) wants the rain that falls on the land to be absorbed by the land!!! Except when the owner digs a pond to allow that.

Convoluted and illogical.
