Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Counterfeit wine

A True-Crime Documentary About the Con That Shook the World of Wine


No surprise to me, since I have seen that blindfolded wine tasters can hardly tell a red from a white. Same thing goes on in the art world. 


If nothing else, counterfeit products should encourage humility on the part of the experts.

The biggest scams are really big, big enough to convince people they're real.

I have also doubted wine experts and enjoyed the reports that only 10% of experts really know what they are talking about.

I believe my brother-in-law Phillipe. He was born outside Paris circa 1940, moved to the US around 1970, and tucks into both wine and food with attention. He is a chemical engineer, and his father was a perfumer for Chanel. Those are enough credentials for me to look no further - though I acknowledge they are not proof.
