Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Hey, that photo caused impure thoughts. Sure, admiring the gun has been sinful for a long time, but now we can't even admire the girl.
This will come back to haunt Bird Dog 30 years from now when he is running for president.
Regarding, sugar, the girl and gun in the photo, etc. The problem stems from treating sin as a crime. And under the NewReligion there are a lot more sins.
QUOTE: Now this is a very interesting matter, and were it borne in mind by our modem legislators they would escape a good deal of unintelligent legislation; that is, the distinction between a sin and a crime. A sin is against the church, or against one's conscience; matter, therefore, for the priest, or one's spiritual adviser. A crime is an offense against other men; that is, against the state, in which all are concerned. Under the intelligent legislation of the twelfth century all matters which were sins, which concerned the conscience, were left to the church to prevent or punish. For the same reason usury was matter for the priest — because it was regarded under the doctrines of the Bible as a sin. This notion prevailed down to the early legislation of the colony of Massachusetts, though doubtless many things which were then considered sins would now be regarded as crimes, such as bigamy, for instance. The distinction is, nevertheless, a valid one, and we shall have occasion frequently to refer to it. We shall find that the defect of much of our modem legislation — prohibition laws, for instance — is that they attempt to treat as crimes, as offenses against the state, matters which are merely sins, offenses against the conscience or the individual who commits them. opular Law-making: A Study of the Origin, History, and Present Tendencies of Law-making by Statuteby Frederic Jesup Stimson (1910) Correct, and all sides of the political spectrum do it. Different groups/parties just have different things they consider sinful.
Politics should stay the heck away from how people live their lives, unless those people harm other people. And "being offended" isn't harm. But of course the natural tendency of politicians is to work towards a system where everything that's not explicitly allowed is implicitly banned, with an overbearing police force and court system to enforce it. After all, they exist for the purpose of creating laws and regulations, due to the way the whole political system is organised and politicians gain favour with potential voters. AlGoreBull Worming: Matthew failed (FAILED) to live up to the hype. The models' predictions are bad because they are bad models, being based on "hope and change".
Trump Supporters Oblivious: Methinks Moonbattery hath drunk from the potion with the pestle. Boston Globe: Oh, it's just so HORRIBLE that (some of THOSE) people are enthused about Trump, and not Hillary. "Can America Ever Really cure it's sugar addiction?"
It is important to understand that what the author means is can the bureaucrats force us to eat less sugar. This is what they want and no lie or made up facts will be spared to force this result. The article refers to a supposed link between sugar and heart disease. Most heart disease is simply genetic. If your dad died at age 45 from a massive heart attack it is likely that you will be at great risk for a massive heart attack as you age as well. The rest of heart disease is more or less the result of normal processes none of which are in anyway related to sugar. If you have these health issues genetic or otherwise there are indeed things you can do to mitigate them and some of those things involve diet limitations. However if you are not suffering from genetic heart problems limiting your diet are subjecting yourself to fad diets will not magically make you live forever. I wish it were true. I wish there was a magic diet that would assure a long and healthy life. The evidence simply doesn't support this fantasy. Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we may die. I seem to recall there's either a sugar subsidy, or a tariff on imported sugar. Could well be both.
But if you reduce or do away with the tariff, you'll cut the amount of money the government can have to do so many wonderful things! /sarc
"How the Overstuffed GOP Primary Field Led to Trump’s Victory"
This is a Neocon's excuse for their terrible failure. There were no "good" candidates offered to the Republican voters. There were indeed too many candidates but that was not the problem. There were only the elite cuckservatives and rinos and one candidate who believed in the country and was able to speak to the money real problems we face that all of the politicians want to sweep under the bus. For some reason the West, not just the U.S. is hell bent on committing suicide by opening borders and allowing the hoards of freeloaders to destroy us. We cannot survive this invasion and the leaders know this so what is the goal? What purpose does it serve to allow thousands of immigrants with TB move in with our citizens and our children? Why would any thinking person allow this? Why would we import millions of poor and unemployable people into the country who must be supported forever by the hard working middle class of America? What could the end game possibly be??? I agree there were "too many" GOP candidates in the primaries and there were far too many establishment rinos, but I'm wouldn't say there were not good candidates. I would say there were none with enough ability to draw attention to themselves. By comparison, all the other candidates looked bland next to Trump. IMOH, he matured as a candidate very quickly. I was not convince of your assessment in the primaries, but I am now. For what it's worth, I'm surprised that Carly didn't do better, but I shouldn't be. She was a Republican (fake) woman and she didn't have much money.
As for your second paragraph, I agree with your assessment, but the reason is simple - the elites who want to blow up society by allowing unfettered migration of people who could have communicable diseases, be a drag on our resources, or actually want to kill us are after power. When all those migrants become citizens, we will be in for at least a generation of one party rule. The saw that there is just as much money made on the building of a civilization as there is on the destruction of it is true. The difference is who gets rich and why. I have to disagree with that assessment. The problem this year was not a structural issue. The number of candidates and the process were largely the same as 2008 when we wound up with McCain (remember Michelle Bachmann leading at one point IIRC) and 2012 when Romney was nominated. Both of them struggled for traction early on but eventually consolidated their wins in the normal fashion.
The problem in 2016 can be summed up in three letters - J E B. Most boutique campaigns don't have a $150 million warchest to run negative ads. Remove his dead weight from the campaign and it's possible that Walker or Perry stay in, and conceivably Trump might not have even considered running. That's a valid point Christopher. I don't remember if Perry and Walker got out because they couldn't get fund raising traction. If so, more evidence for your position,
I still think that a big part of what happened was that Trump was OBVIOUSLY NOT PC, he was OBVIOUSLY not the run of the mill candidate, and he was insistent that we control immigration. I think a lot of people were looking pretty hard for someone like that. He also said "outrageous" things that generated a lot of press coverage. Agreed, Mudbug. All this talk about how Trump could have been stopped is silly when Trump was the only one saying what mainstream Republicans know to be true: illegal immigration is causing far more economic and societal problems than it is solving. And the democrats are trying to bus more potential voters into the country as quickly as possible.

Trump was a celebrity with name recognition, a TV show on a major network, an NYC base, and a Rolodex full of media contacts. I'll give you his style being somewhat important but his policy views were irrelevant. He changed them day to day during the primary.
Trump was not inevitable. He got beat in over a dozen states including Ohio, Wisconsin, and Texas. In the early primaries he was the choice of only a bare plurality of voters. Without Jeb pursuing a failed strategy of 'last man standing' at the same time he was unacceptable to over 85% of the GOP (on one of his good days) there would have been a path for another candidate (Perry, Cruz, Rubio) to rise as a challenger.

You almost have to laugh at the left's and Hillary's "outrage." These are the people who said it was none of our business. With the exception of one NOW office, they were silent about Bill's women and even Gloria Steinem said that a man was allowed a free grope.
mudbug: You almost have to laugh at the left's and Hillary's "outrage."
Clinton's response to Trump's "outrage". From the Trump supporter perspective there is no 'campaign collapse.' Have you not been watching the rallies these past few days? More people than ever? Thousands outside who don't get in.
I think in FL, he had 12,000 inside the venue and another 10,000 outside. The rally last night was packed to the gills. Tell me there isn't a huge enthusiasm to vote for Trump. Despite the media smears. For those of use who have been around the block, this stuff (sexual accusations) is what the Democrats do all the time. For practically every candidate. It is starting to look pretty desperate to me. They aren't seeing it work as in the past, so they are piling on. Eventually, the number of women and what they claim will be more and more ludicrous. Please explain to me how all of these women were 'too scared' or 'too traumatized' to come out during the primaries when they saw Trump close to winning? Wouldn't THAT be the time you'd try to take down your accuser, when you saw him in reach of the nomination? The timing is ridiculous. Most women who are voting Trump see right through this. The only people this is playing to are the Hillary supporters and the press. MissT: Most women who are voting Trump see right through this. I didn't like the initial story about what he said he could get away with because he was famous. I thought it was crude, but it certainly didn't scandalize me. I was surprised that my wife didn't care AT ALL. You have to love her attitude about this sort of thing (at least I do). Back when she was working, there was a manager who was suspected of sexual impropriety and the uppity ups talked to her about it: Do you know anything about this? - No. If he does anything would you let us know? - I think I can take care of myself, thank you. You are spot on Miss T! Trump supporter and a woman. Thanks for netting it out.
MissT: From the Trump supporter perspective there is no 'campaign collapse.'
We might revisit this question after election day, November 8. QUOTE: i‘Perilous Whiteness of Pumpkins’ Study Deems Pumpkin Spice Lattes ‘White Privilege’ I like my coffee the way I like my women: cold and bitter. Great that you have a twitter share button now, but things are moving to Gab.

RE Are Global Warming Alarmists Disappointed Hurricane Matthew Wasn't Worse?
We're warning all of you people. If we don't fix our climate by 2010 you will have to deal with 50 million climate refugees, and that's according to the U f'ing N Environment Programme, so you can take that to the World Bank! Our Padawan Learner Zach will be here shortly to evade your questions. Mr.Prager mentions God and Twitter does not want you to believe in God. Government is God. Everybody knows that! Do I need a Sarc? Is Zachriel around.?
Two trillion galaxies? Why it seemed like yesterday that there were only one trillion. I mean that literally. I read an article yesterday that said there might now be a trillion galaxies. Cool.
If you have no real idea how many galaxies there are, any really big number will pretty much do.
If you have no real idea how many galaxies of anything there are is, any really big number will pretty much do. FTFY.
If you have no real idea how many much of anything there is, any really big number will pretty much do. Forgot that one.
Former Haitian Senate President Calls Clintons 'Common Thieves Who Should Be in Jail'
----------------------------------------------------------- The present reminds me so much of the halcyon days of Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos. We weren't living in the Philippines when I was a kid, but we got a lot of Filipino TV shows. The press outdid itself trying to kiss up to them. I still remember the Sunday afternoon variety show, Filipino Fiesta, which was focused on all the wonderful things that the Marcoses were doing for you. They had the following quiz I remember. Spoken in a Filipino accent: "Q: What are Ferdinand Marcos' three most important titles? A: President, Prime Minister, and Commander in Chief. Q: What are Imelda Marcos' three most important titles? A: First Lady, Mayor of Manila, and Wife of the President" And then many years later when they went into exile, they unfortunately rented the house behind ours to throw a party for themselves and friends (they used to be driven around in a gaudy gold, silver and maroon Rolls Royce by their crony Joe Lazo). One night, I was trying to sleep--I had just come home from the hospital after an operation and was still in a lot of pain--and I thought I was dreaming or hallucinating. I swore I heard people singing "This Land is My Land," "I Did it My Way," and then Ferdinand and Imelda were singing their duet, "Dahil Sayong." As I came to consciousness more and more, I realized I wasn't dreaming, it was actually Ferdinand and Imelda partying next door and the music was coming right in our bedroom window. Anyway, when I see the Clintons I immediately think of the Marcoses. And now America you're still stuck with them when they should have been locked up. And I am scared we are now going to have to live with them again back in the White House. QUOTE: Sansaricq said that the Clinton Foundation received 14.3 billion dollars in donation money to help with the relief effort. The Clinton Foundation only raised $30 million. The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund raised about $50 million. The bulk of the money was raised through the Red Cross and United Nations. The Clintons have stolen hundreds of millions of dollars, just like Ferdinand and Imelda did. And the deluded media continues to treat them like gods.
Why, when you have no rebuttal, do you always respond with "if it feels true"? Is that in your programming when you reach the end of your knowledge cycle?
By the way, your link just goes to a Geico ad about a pirate crew turning on their captain when the parrot says he stole all their treasure. Fitting.

Jim: Why, when you have no rebuttal, do you always respond with "if it feels true"?
It's a valid response to an unsupported claim. You also ignored our response. The Clinton Foundation only raised $30 million. The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund raised about $50 million. The bulk of the $14 billion for Haiti relief was raised through the Red Cross and United Nations. Furthermore, because we have their tax returns going back decades, we know how and where the Clintons made their money, which was primarily through speeches and book royalties. Jim: By the way, your link just goes to a Geico ad about a pirate crew turning on their captain when the parrot says he stole all their treasure. It's an ad sponsored video. If you don't have time for that, then we'll just provide you the definition. truthiness: the quality of seeming or being felt to be true, even if not necessarily true.

We need to correct you, as "hundreds of millions" implies more than the two hundred million they actually did steal. OK, I admit I exaggerated.
