We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
That's on the advice of our NYC theatrical daughter, who thought Hamilton was a typical, schlocky, over-hyped pseudo-historical Broadway spectacle. We are generally off-Broadway if not off-off-Broadway people, but that daughter is discerning so I guess we ought to listen to her. Other daughter loved Hamilton.
Probably won't ever get near enough to NY to watch a Broadway show. But if I did, I would likely avoid ones that are racist. And I thought I heard a while back that Hamilton only employed people of a certain race. Sounds like racism if true.
Dangerous Dean: But if I did, I would likely avoid ones that are racist.
For generations, directors "only employed people of a certain race" to play George Washington and Alexander Hamilton. They even "only employed people of a certain race" to play Othello or Sitting Bull.
Miranda insisted on the non-historical use of race because it allows us to see the past through the prism of present-day America.
Neither of them really catch my interest, but they are well made films. I'd enjoy watching Oz with my children. I can say the same for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and few others like that. Still, I think they'd be better without the songs.
Thanks for the recommendation. My wife and I will be going to the 11/4 show. We'll be in NYC for the weekend. She's running the marathon and I'm along to cheer her on. Planning for dinner at Cafe Victor Friday night before the show. We will go to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum on Saturday before walking to the Javits Center, for the marathon expo. Any suggestions for dinner Saturday evening would be appreciated.
