We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Here where we live in Missouri we used to have a good number of very large praying mantis, but unfortunately for some reason they have gone the way of honey bees and walking sticks, not to mention frogs. We have ten acres and don't spray pesticides but something is causing their numbers to diminish and it is sad.
I like mantises (manti?). Had a "pet" mantis in Vietnam back in '68. Took him to the shop. My co-workers started catching bugs and feeding him. Pretty soon his lower abdomen was as thick as your thumb and he had to just drag it along when he walked.
