We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I think the I-280 corridor on the Bay Area's west peninsula, which is mostly undeveloped land, should be developed as affordable housing. Immigrants and refugees from the Middle-east and other areas should especially be encouraged to live there. Additionally, the land use laws in the Bay Area preventing high rise high density housing should be overturned, by Federal pre-emption, if possible. Since the current crop of silicon valley mavens recently issued a letter denouncing Trump on the issue of immigration, they should be strongly in favor of this proposal.
Well it just sounds like it should work - all upside, no risk. So why think about it anymore or ask if there are any opposing votes? Full speed ahead.
What could go wrong?

Public housing is a disaster. Just yesterday I came around the corner and there were 8 cops, 4 of whom were fully outfitted with vests and rifles pounding on the door at one of our neighborhood projects. Probably same number out back. Run into guns drawn several times now and there's shooting in and around those damn places every few weeks. Turns out they were picking up a guy who was involved in one of the American Legion shootings and was also wanted for the heroin dealer sweep being conducted yesterday as well. And I'll tell you, the town I live in is puny, but the big city problems arrived with the public housing.
Anyway, as cancerous as public housing is, if we have to have it, I wouldn't mind seeing it jammed down the throats of liberal elite loudmouths who've moved to all-white areas "because of the schools" (wink wink).
Having lived within blocks of a notorious public housing project gone wrong and worked as a marketing consultant to a company trying to turn another HUD complex into a presentable private high-rise, I can only cry, "No way!" Public housing via HUD is a disaster. The stories are never ending tragedies.
Now HUD has decided to give vouchers to families for rentals in some urban high-rises in upscale markets; ask the neighbors how they feel about the chaos reigning day and night. Will the government never learn that, without an investment in the property or goods or education, that "gift" is not respected.
The Big 0 should stop trying to infect every area of Americans lives with his communist policies, especially when he never has to follow the path he sets for others.
BTW, Valerie Jarrett's grandfather, Robert R. Taylor, as head of the Chicago Housing Authority built the Robert Taylor homes on Chicago's lakefront, the second most notorious high-rise community in the city. As I recall, some teens tossed a younger child out of a window to his death. The buildings apartments just became birds' nests for gangs to pick off innocents walking to and fro on errands. Gone now, but never forgotten.
