We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The Brits may turn out to have gotten it wrong in retrospect. We won't know until we get there. But the choice was never between a clear good and a xenophobic evil, as the Remainers are now claiming, but a balancing act. And whatever else they get wrong, the Brexiters recognised some important things the EU was getting wrong: A) the number of regulations which did not take local circumstances into account were increasing, and the rulers did not pay the least attention to the concerns of the ruled; B) a tenfold-increase in immigrants who had not gone through much screening and were showing unwillingness to adopt European ideas about work, violence, and how women should be treated deserved reconsideration, not doubling-down; C) The cultural division between those who think British culture an admirable thing and those who think it an unfortunate obstacle was increasing.
In this, they did not vote in favor of Leave so much as they voted against Remain. Which was entirely reasonable.
