Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re: The EU Is Nothing Without Britain!
I would say almost nothing since I think Germany is nearly as big a part of the EU as the UK is. That said, the future for the UK is going to be rocky for a while, but owning its own future is worth more than whatever they got from the EU. As rocky as the UK will likely have it, the EU will probably have it much worse. The UK is only the first. If there is an EU in ten years it will look a lot different and probably be a lot smaller. "Can insanity be required by law?"--C'mon, you already know the answer to that.
Re: Clinton failed to hand over key email to State Department
That implies there was only one 'key' email she failed to hand over. Leave it to the AP to put the best face on the story. Re Brexit:
Wretch wrote at Belmont Club: QUOTE: The rebellion is real. All of a sudden the invincible status quo looks very mortal. The big losers -- apart from the European project itself -- were conventional wisdom, which predicted a comfortable win for the Remain faction all the way until the roof fell in and President Obama. He made a special trip across the Atlantic to lobby British voters to stay in the EU. He was apparently less than convincing. Nor did the thinly veiled warnings of operatives like Strobe Talbott, who hinted darkly at the end of the British-American special relationship in the event of Brexit cut much ice. If today's events prove anything, besides Talbott's fallibility, it is that Brussels, not London is the capital of a dying empire. "Voters in France, Italy and the Netherlands are demanding their own votes on European Union membership and the euro, as the continent faces a “contagion” of referendums. If the unthinkable was no longer impossible, the inevitable was no longer fore ordinaed. https://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/2016/06/23/alone-2/?singlepage=true What happens next? Will the ruling class be able to drag their bureaucratic feet disentangling the UK from the EU? Meanwhile, like blaming Bush for every ill in our economy, will they blame every economic ill in the UK on leaving the EU and try to stampede the electorate into rejoining? The immediate rhetoric in the aftermath of the vote suggests none of that will happen, but I can't help but think they would like to put Humpty Dumpty back together again if they could. And President Obozo telling the Brits they would have to go to the back of the line if they opted out. I think the UK voters just hurled a giant egg and hit him square in the face. Heh. Looks like a can of worms must be sorted through to extricate the UK from the EU:
http://www.politico.eu/article/how-britain-uk-would-leave-the-eu-brexit-referendum/ I think the military arms of the EU countries (what little there is) and NATO should be very alert. The train wreck that the end of the EU will be will probably be seen as an opportunity to Putin to cause more trouble - at the minimum.
"Republicans have a shot at replacing Obamacare"
Why? Why replace why not eliminate. We have the best health care in the world because it isn't owned and run by the government. Why would we want to make it worse and more expensive? My suggestion is don't try to fix or replace Obamacare but simply make to simple changes: Make it voluntary not mandatory and eliminate federal subsidies. Let Obamacare die a natural death. Why would we want socialized healthcare if fails everywhere it's tried? Do you really want the federal government running healthcare? There would be quota's budget overruns which would result in closed clinics/hospitals, higher taxes, death panels, health care denied, etc. If you like the VA health care you will love socialized health care. yeah, except that the whole obamacare thing was NOT about healthcare and all about CONTROL.
Even the RINOS aren't going to step away from that. The democrats are once again fighting to take away liberties. It would be bad enough if it was only the democrats, but bad bills barely did not pass the senate, where it should be pointed out republicans have the majority. One more justice on the supreme court, and the democrat president would be able to create law. Who needs congress? The left leaning justices have shown that the constitution is just a piece of paper, meaningless to them. I am not a yuuge Trump fan, but I will vote for him. The consequences of Hillary presidency are catastrophic. A Trump presidency will have the effect of congress reestablishing their check on the executive branch. Both parties will move heaven and earth to way lay him. Count on it. And that gives me hope for our constitutional republic. We the people are not subjects!
Gender was originally a theory developed by a quack psychiatrist in the 1960s. His theory was discredited but now gender quackery is the law.
The EU was a C.I.A. construct in the belief that it is easier for the U.S. to impact and control policies over one government vs. lots of smaller ones. It was devised, packaged and sold on false premises with both intended and unintended consequences that have destroyed sovereignty, Western civilization, individualism and personal freedom. Bye, bye, bye. May the rest of the EU smarten up…and the U.S.
The world is watching and listening to Mr. Trump. Not according to Frederick Forsyth (http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-06-23/european-union-government-deception).
Here is some of the reasons NYC stinks
http://www.sciencealert.com/here-s-why-new-york-city-smells-so-rancid-in-the-summer Re: Bureaucrats with guns
With the "deference" SCOTUS pays to the executive-branch agencies with regards to making and interpreting their own rules, the agencies' only effective check is their reliance on the DoJ to enforce their directives - having their own SWAT teams effectively makes each agency its own little fiefdom and each agency head his own little warlord. If the President is not cnstrained by Congress nor the Constitution why should the EPA be constrained by the Congress or by the Constitution or by the President? This is I think the biggest threat to the US - the regulatory state is becoming self-sufficient and nobody is in control anymore. |
