We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I do not understand why this would not raise a red flag that maybe, just maybe the teachers, administrators and school board simply aren't qualified to teach and care for children. They should be invited /required to seek employment elsewhere and quickly before they harm more children. God knows what else they do that is inappropriate that we don't know about. The judge should be ashamed and also asked to leave and if he chooses not to than impeached. This is just stupid and sadly doesn't stand out considering all the other stupid things our public employees have doe to us.
RE Advice from WaPo: If you have a gun on you during a mass shooting, don’t shoot back except as a last resort
the WaPo is actually quoting advice from:
J. Pete Blair, executive director of the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center, based at Texas State University. ...
Blair’s book warns against people with concealed handguns trying to engage a killer except as a last resort:
“The last thing you want to do in an active shooter event is to pull your gun out and go hunting for the shooter. If there are other concealed gun carriers in the attack location, they may shoot you. If the police show up and you are running around with a gun, they will probably shoot you. Remember that no one knows who you are. The responders are looking for someone with a gun and you match that description.”
this is the same advice I got from my concealed carry instructor (also a police instructor), in the context of burglar in the home.
I carry a concealed .380 with a 3.5 inch barrel and marginal accuracy at any distance. so in a mass shooting situation, unless the shooter is within very, very close range, I'm headed for the exit.

There's sense in that. We had a recent active shooter training, and one of the points stressed was to game likely situations in advance, so that you are not trying to make complicated decisions when you are not even quite sure what is going on. Recognising that you are in the midst of an emergency is not always automatic. If you have an often-repeated environment, such as riding a subway or walking through a parking lot every day, think it through beforehand.
As to shooting during an emergency, the others around you also do not know who you are and may think you are a shooter, not a defender. They may run away from you into a place of greater danger. Don't get me wrong - there are times when shooting is the correct response (else, why carry at all?) - it's just not automatic.
He used to have some affection for the people he came from. I summered at Lutheran camps 1981-1993 and they mostly loved him. Weren't offended at all. Not at first, anyway. After he stopped the show in 1987 and brought it back in 1989 it seemed different. A little meaner. That steadily increased, and even though I sometimes listened to him for the next few years it was less often, and by 1995 I had had it. Just spiteful.
Perhaps Trump is a plant. Maybe the Clintons truly believe that Islam is a problem. Perhaps the Clintons are smarter than we believe. Perhaps their grand experiment is to return America to its roots. To think that the Clintons will not bomb Iran is a fallacy. The military-industrial complex is in full force. Hillary will drop a ggg-great big bomb. But let me digress about my crazy uncle Ron Paul. Oy Vey.
So the environmentalists are making noises like they support nuclear power.
Don't trust them! This is another ploy to screw up our industrial economy. After pretty much killing nuclear power with scare stories and lies, they are now wanting to kill coal by promising that THIS time they have a serious plan to replace it - more nuclear.
I would suggest a similar, but not identical argument. There are very earnest environmentalists who are genuinely worried about CO2 and are willing to consider unpopular ideas. I have been hearing this "Greens are considering nuclear" trope since the early 80's. I don't think it's a dodge. I just think the more cynical/power-hungry/kulturkampf types lasso the others up and put them into a pen pretty quickly.
As most leftism depends on social acceptance (rather like highschool), it's pretty easy to marginalise those who won't fall in line.
