He could also try visiting Hong Kong and remember the events of December, 1941, when the Japanese overran the garrison, which included a contingent of Canadians hastily sent their that November. The Japanese invaded 8th December, and fighting continued until 25th December, when the colony surrendered. There were reports that the victorious Japanese bayoneted wounded in their beds and raped the nurses. The survivors ended up in various POW camps, some in Japan. The treatment they received left them with life-long health problems. It was not until 1998 that Canada finally acknowledged the Hong Kong veterans had undergone hardships far beyond that suffered by other POWs and agreed to compensation.

So Obama did visit Pearl Harbor. He certainly didn't frame the occasion as what should be a "moral awakening" - which is just another way of saying we were immoral to have dropped the bomb.

I'm waiting for Obama to publicly recognize the immorality of of the myriad war crimes that the Japanese committed.

I'm waiting for Obama to admit that the Japanese routinely fought to the death (very few Japanese soldiers were captured) to the extent that they executed suicide attacks, that there was no evidence that that mind set had changed and thus an invasion of the Japanese mainland would have been a blood bath on both sides. So actually the moral position was to drop those bombs to save lives.

I'm waiting for Obama, or the Japanese, to recognize the immorality of the Japanese who were so militant that they refused to surrender after the first bomb and there was still reservations after the second.

I'm waiting for Obama to receive or ask for thanks for the help the US government gave Japan - to the extent of reforming all of their politics and a lot of their society - so they are now a democratic, peaceful, productive nation rather than the bloodthirsty empire they were.

Neither Obama nor the Japanese have been there or done that.

Martinez is a Bush-ite squish whose rank is owed to the same tawdry racialism practiced by the BLM movement. Worse, like governors of states with large federal holdings Martinez had to kiss a lot DC bung to get where she is. New Mexico can do better.

Many sitting pols are going to see their vaunted elections to high office refuted this year. Gov. Moonbeam in Cali is another one with his balls on the grill. He and Martinez can compare notes on Facebook in their retirements.

BTW: Hispanic defines a person whose first language is Spanish. That's all. It says nothing about that person's lineage or his predilections when voting. And if you pretend that it does then you're shoe-horning

Fundamentally, capitalism is the liberty to use productive capital to make wealth for ones own account.

Who is afforded this liberty defines the economic system from laissez faire thru regulation and licensing thru deeper interventionism on up to full state capitalism, i.e. socialism (communism being as Lenin redefined it world socialism with one leader). Crony capitalism being an offshoot where connected individuals have a grant of greater liberty from those in power.

Socialism isn't an alternative to capitalism, it is a restriction on who has the liberty capitalism represents.

The Pope is just seeking to turn back history to a simpler time when a few feudal lords were afforded the liberty to use the productive capital in their lands to generate wealth, while the majority of people were obligated to produce under the lord's direction, and transfer the output of their labor to the feudal lords control for trade or use.

In short, the Pope longs for the time before the liberty to make wealth for ones own account was not permitted to those not of "aristocratic" class.

Obama on another apology tour. Frankly it is a good thing. He duped the American voters, he lied he was supported by liars and he always intended to do everything he could to harm American and middle class Americans. Many of us saw this long before he was president. When you look up empty suit in the dictionary there is a picture of Obama. Now in his zeal to take down American most Americans see it too. He isn't done yet. He will probably go down in history as the single person who caused the most harm to America. In that context it is no surprise that he was supported and encouraged by the radical left who also hates America and the middle class. Obama, Clinton and the radical left are the enemy within the gates.

We are experiencing the greatest redistribution of wealth in the history of the world. The left is looting the middle class of this country and won't be happy until it is all gone, everything, gone with the wind.

Agree. Or How about Guadalcanal, or Tarawa, or Peleliu, or Iwo Jima, or Saipan, or Okinawa. How about Manila and Bataan (the death toll of the Japanese occupation of Manila easily matches that of the bombed Japanese cities). As long as he's now into history he should read about the incredible bestiality and savagery of the Japanese Command and the individual Japanese soldier on those bloody now forgotten islands. He should read about the incredible courage of the thousands of young American men that fought to the death on those islands--and won. And once he has read about that he should contemplate what a bloody wasteful fight it would have been in Japan proper, on both sides, to subdue the fanatics that started that war.

The Japanese started the conflict and carried it out with a brutality only recently matched by the Muslims. That they reaped such a vengeance can only be laid at their own door.

Once again our "President" has shown that he is a contemptible and paltry little man unworthy of the country he "leads"

Sledge is rather laconic. A more graphic account, although not a first person history, appears in Bradley's Flags of our fathers. Very different in tone is George MacDonald Fraser's Quartered safe out here. Fraser, a lance corporal/section leader in the Burma campaign, was against the bombings.

The swedes have shown themselves to be gutless and stupid. They import a lot of Muslim migrants (even though there is not enough jobs or housing for them), the incidents of rape increases, and their response is to lie about it in the media, forgive it in the criminal justice system (nice confluence of words - the justice system is criminal), and now blame their own girls who are the victims. Trump was only looking at the economics of New Mexico and then telling it like it is. Guess what? NM has had the WORST recovery of any state after the economic downturn. You think that is something to celebrate? And he is right, not good if food stamp recipients are on the rise. Maybe she should look at what the governor did in Maine to fix that problem.

I have no issues with him pointing out the facts. Why protect a governor with a crummy economic record? How does that help? Tell the truth and then explain that you will help out NM when you are president.

The RNC puts Martinez on a pedestal b/c she is an hispanic, female governor. Ridiculous.

Trump has listed stats for every state where he has campaigned in order to emphasize the need to change policies. My brother has lived in New Mexico for over 25 years and was finally forced out when his company went bankrupt thanks to the economic bust in 2008. He would like to return as his home was charming, but he also would like to earn a living. It's a dead end for his children; once they graduated from high school, there were no options but to go outside the state for college and jobs.

Meanwhile, with unemployment and welfare at an all time high, Martinez takes in "Syrian refugees"? (Frankly, we really aren't certain where some of the people come from.) Trump merely pointed out the obvious. Plus, she disrespected the leading candidate in her party by being "too busy" to meet him. Once again, those thug protesters are being paid; without the moolah they would never show up.

I agree, Martinez snubbed Trump enough throughout the primary season that she doesn't deserve lauding of any kind. Especially when her achievements are minimal at best.

The fact that in the Great Lakes Salmon are declining in favor of lake trout should be regarded as a success, not a failure. Lake trout historically are the apex predator in the Great Lakes, until the St. Lawrence Seaway opened them to invasive species. From the 1960s through the 1990s, the lakes were basically managed as a giant game farm for salmon, probably harming the recovery of trout.

Have I been living in a hole the last few years? What and why this epidemic of transgendered teens and pre-teens and even kindergartners? Are there sufficient numbers and problems that the Federal government has to get involved with policy? Where have they all been and how did we handled their "problems" during the last 50 years or so? I thought the pioneers in this area at Johns Hopkins had shut down that department for because the results were so devastating. What's happened when I wasn't paying attention?
