We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Grey Squirrel

Identity confusion?  My trainer took this pic yesterday of a Grey Squirrel (melanistic version) - with a pale tail.

Grey?

Looks like black to me, like the black squirrels you see in Maryland and Virginia ...

Species is Grey Squirrel. As I said, it's the melanistic version of Grey Squirrel.

I live on the South Shore and have noticed red squirrels moving into the area as well as what appear to be grey/red hybrids showing up lately. Smaller than regular greys, with a reddish tinge and a bushy tail like a grey, but aggressive like the reds.
I do know that reds will push out greys by breeding and food denial, so I'm guessing its happening here.

Well actually you are all wrong, it is a Gray Squirrel (native to the Americas).
