We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Should We Eradicate Manhood?


I don't know what to think about all this. There have always been beta males, fearful males, but boys were taught to be brave and not to take crap no matter how they feel. When it comes to capacity for aggression, it often seems to me that women exhibit more. 


The mental image of Milo bitch-slapping those jerks is enjoyable, could have happened but "that's violence."

In the small town I grew up in, fighting among the boys was part of growing up. One of my friend's dads had been a boxer so he taught his son...after a few fights no one challenged him. The rest of us routinely slugged it out...sometimes it is just what you had to do...but still we were friends. By high school we didn't fight as much unless it was about a girl.

Years ago I was in Montana on a fly-fishing trip and visited a small town where they were having some kind of a county fair. I wandered into a big tent where dozens of cows were penned up, waiting to be sold or auctioned or ridden or buggered or whatever happens to them in small towns. There, in he the middle, was a semi-circle of teenaged cowboys and cowgirls, surrounding a pair of kids who had squared off, ready to fight. Each had a regulation style Stetson, a bottle of beer in one hand and a girl clinging to his shoulder, holding her man back as the crowd (including me) egged them both on. It looked like a regular Normal Rockwell painting.

As for the fighting, today such incidents end up before the criminal courts where lives are destroyed.
