We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Actually just the sort of thing I am looking for now, but Im looking for something 3 years old instead of 30. Lightweight, not necessarily a "fast" car, but one that handles really well and is fun to drive. And that has room for a bit more luggage than a Miata -- I've grown to love the hatchback style for impromptu antique purchases -- if they don't fit in the back, they'll strap on top.
I'm running out of mechanics old enough to know how to fix my old car.
Volkswagen Golf or GTI, Mini Cooper or Clubman, Ford Focus (especially Focus ST), and Mazda3 are the best handling fun hatchbacks with practicality. You might find a 3 yr old Audi A3 hatchback, too. If rear wheel drive is preferred, like this Isuzu was, your choice is Subaru BRZ or its Scion FRS sibling.
My soon-to-be wife bought one of these a few months before our wedding. Great little car, 5-speed, turbo 4-cylinder. The first dealership lost the sale when the salesman said that girls didn't need the turbo model.
It had a big flaw though, with mixed aluminum and steel bolted together in the engine. We kept it until the repair payments became a significant part of our monthly budget.
