We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
None of my preferred candidates made it to a primary! I'd be lying if I said I was 100% comfortable with him, but I think you're right. It seems that he has really out-thought everybody else (easy to say when he's winning) or maybe it was that he did what he's done by mistake. Either way, it seems to be working and you can't knock success.
Hard as it is to fathom, maybe he is the right person at the right time. Maybe this is not the time for the safe choice or the known commodity. If he had been a stolid pedantic debater, we wouldn't be talking about him now. I think there are a lot of clever, glib, and credentialed people, who on paper would be better choices, but not be all that effective or capable.
This morning I was listening to an articulate Conservative caller on the Boston.com Morning Show. He managed to express his angst and present what he would like to see going forward which is that the presidential election ultimately fall into the hands of the House. I can identify with his dismay, but, my take away, from his commentary, is that the disaffected working people should just lump it and have no say in the future of this country.
This is the problem. The oligarchs (Wall Street, Transnational Corporations) are understandably indifferent to the well being of the working people. They are not malevolent: they just see workers as an impediment at best, collateral damage at worst, in their march toward the devaluation of physical labor and Commerce Uber Alles.
The skill set of much of the oligarch servant class, is hype, illusion and deceit. This includes: politicians, technocrats, consultants, think tanks, lobbyists, who I think of as liars for hire. I have no doubt that they have and would whittle away at American sovereignty and the Bill of Rights.
I get the advantages of immigration and free trade, however I don't buy that it is a win,win for everyone as the spin doctors would have you believe. What is a working person, who has been reared to value productivity, and contributing to do, if you are not interested in hand outs and you want to live in America, not Sweden or Brazil North?
