We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
It seems, as a limit, five is the maximum for closest friends, and 100-150 about the max for solid pals plus solid acquaintances. That seems about right to me, depending on how pals and good acquaintances are defined (in this case, by frequency of contact). (h/t, Insty)
For much of our prehistory, we lived in bands of 30-150, and the bands would interact in groups of up to about 3000 max (think yearly festival at Stonehenge, for example, among groups who both traded and battled with each other in other circumstances but had significant commonalities - something more like a clan).
