Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Michelle Obama Lunch Rules Ban Fried Foods, Frosted Flakes in Daycare
A nation so stupid it takes MO to come along and abuse the power of the state or we'll neglect-food our kids to death. I hope you realize that's what this really is and that it starts with culture and only downstreams into politics. You can see that, no? Or is sugar-plated corn meal and processed, deep-fried crap-nuggets squirted from a machine suitable food for your little ones? Are you really surprised that your corporatist institutions feed no better than they educate? Or that a rank partisan would medicate one end of that and not the other? If this nation weren't as stunningly dysfunctional as it is we'd be managing our lives - and raising our children - better than to have the likes if these people have to do it for us. But no, we won't raise a proud rightist finger while we have some daycare or school stuff them with packaged garbage from belly to brain on their fifteen-year journey through Machine, with four hours a day of television in their off time, just to drive the message home. You can question and protest MO until the cows come home but that's another issue. You might want to look at the problem from a slightly different angle. yeah, but for once he's got a point. for reasons good or bad, it is a fact that parents look to skools to provide lunch for their kids. if a district does this, then its the district's obligation to serve something other than, as ten puts it, "sugar-plated corn meal and processed, deep-fried crap-nuggets squirted from a machine".
skool districts are local entities and parents are expected to take an interest in how their kids are schooled. If the the district serves mounds of sugar and potato chips then the parents should demand that the district stop. and I'm not talking about menu items like rabbit tartare or whatever the daily dish served at the obama's private school, or uploaded photos by children showing mystery meat, those are distractions that the media loves to indulge in. Moochelle has the right intentions, obesity is rampant among kids. her -- meaning federal -- actions are unfortunately reasonable efforts to get the fed to do what parents and skool districts can't or won't. this is not the best option, obviously, but it is a better one. I'm sure that smarts to admit, D"BJ"D, but as Assistant Village observes, just like cold war E Germans, yet we live.
So when there's just no choice dammit, at least there's that. Mr. Obama, tear down this wall!
Hopefully we will be liberated by the end of this year.

if you were wrong all of the time you'd be a troll. being right on rare occasions makes you merely naive.

I'm wrong every time you put words in my mouth, counselor. It's my cross to bear but at least you get to try and bullshit the jury and that's what entertains everybody.

I agree we should be feeding our own children. It's the corporatist blame that irritates me. They offer what the public asks for, and in this case the public is the school system. I also note that the equating of academic mediocrity with nutritional mediocrity relies on the assumption that American schools are indeed mediocre. It is tiring to explain it to both liberals and conservatives, because both want to change the schools to fit their own narratives, but neither is correct. American schools remain the best in the world, and headlines to the contrary ignore the realities of breaking down PISA scores by race. So too with nutrition. The human body is something of a Sterling engine, and can run on many things. Some are better than others, and some have long-term health consequences. But even with those long-term health consequences, the people who eat badly in this country still live a long, long, time.
Thus, "and yet we live." "A long time," I might have added. It's just not worth a rant. Either way. This is certainly a very good website. I adore it. Yet i was indeed thinking if you folks are acquainted with this business that went public using Regulation A I feel that its going produce new jobs for the entertainment industry plus I believe that its a grand initiative whose moment in time has come. I am planning to make investments in the corporation on June 19, 2016. What do you guys think here is a link. See it for yourself. http://bit.ly/1rgvSCA
The game is rigged.
"April 13, 2016. Chicago (ONN) If you wanted to run for Congress here in Illinois, and you are a Democrat or Republican, you would need only about 500 signatures. But if you wanted to run as an independent, a Libertarian, a Green or a Constitution Party candidate, you would need about 15,000 signatures. That doesn’t seem fair, does it? Now consider you are one of those third parties and you want to run an entire slate of candidates. The requirements are nearly insurmountable, and that’s no accident." http://www.illinoisherald.com/articles/2016/q2/il-third-parties-begin-unfair-ballot-access-process/ I would think someone could challenge this in federal court. Go for it.
No Frosted Flakes eat Kale for breakfast. No juice either and some of the loonies even demand kids don't eat any fruit, because of the deadly fructose don'tcha know.
All of this started because of the 19th century belief that it's sugar/carbs/red meat/fat/saturated fats that cause obesity. All of this fanaticism ignores the fact the most of the children that are punished be decree are not fat or obese. Most are normal even though they eat the dreaded Frosted Flakes or drink OJ. I don't blame Michelle, this is simply what happens when someone who is not all that bright gains power. I have no doubt that she believe she is doing the right thing. The new national anti-freedom cry will be let them eat kale. All of this started because of the 19th century belief that...
No it didn't. That's just your own wallpaper. "Obama calls for strong, united Europe"
Because he's a communist and doesn't believe in national sovereignty. The EU has already hoodwinked the nations of Europe into surrendering their national sovereignty, laws and culture, and it will be oh so much easier for the globalists to take over if everyone puts down their pitchfork and comes quietly. I understand Obama is angling to take Ban Ki Moon's spot at the UN. King of the world. Yay! Wait, is Obama calling for Europe to build up its military forces, i.e., strong? Or is he calling for more overbearing unaccountable Brussel's bureaucrats?
In any case, a unified Europe is much easier to destroy. Just as they work to impose an overbearing federal government in the US. A lot of cooperating sovereign republics are hard to destroy because some will always resist. Obama to the UN? All the better time to move the UN to Mogadishu where it will be closer to the center of nations and not be such a burden on poor nations to send delegations off to high in a global quadrant that only had 4 nations above 20N. The EU is not a country and any analogy with the US is therefore bound to be a poor one.
In the final instance, EU member countries are not subordinate US states within a fixed national federation; they are sovereign states that can pack up and depart the EU at any time. Of course, there would be political and economic consequences to such action but the EU won't be sending in a "Union Army" to defeat their "secession". RE One of the more obvious aspects of the modern lynch mob is it is almost always composed of women.
QUOTE: The female of our species has a biological purpose. That’s to find a suitable mate, bear children and raise them to sexual maturity. That’s nature’s assignment to women. in the words of noted political commentator Adrian Cronauer, the zman is "in more dire need of a blowjob than any white man in history." Shouldn't say things like that; z might read the comments and get a swelled head.
It certainly seems reasonable that the schools should serve the children good food. But what is "good food"? The answer is actually very simple. We have half a dozen or agendized groups that will tell us all what is good and what is bad, the only problem is they all disagree. But the point that matters is free choice. Perhaps frosted flakes are not good, let's for the sake of the argument agree that Frosted Flakes are not good for children to eat so the school doesn't serve them. Can they now BAN them? Would that be right and a good thing? If a child brings Frosted Flakes to school can they eat them in peace or must the parents be burned at the stake. I would bet even money a large minority of people would agree that the school can ban foods they don't like. So the next question is what is the legal authority of the school to ban a food sold openly and legally in stores?? Shouldn't they at least be required to prove that they are right in banning a food? But can you? Can you prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Frosted Flakes is "BAD" for children and not simply the butt of some arbitrary food fad and pseudo-science. And what's next? As legal guardian of our three grand children we were told not to give them juice. WTH! No juice? Are you just stupid? But, yes juice is bad for you because it has sugar. Well what about fruit? Well... some fruits but don't over do it. Really!!!! Who appoints these food bigots to decide what kids can eat?
You're right, Gone, fruit is being demonized. I've even heard it called "sugar in a skin".
Back in the day, used apple juice to mix the rice cereal which was the "first food" as otherwise it tasted like library paste. Bananas were an early introduction, along with pears (used to make a chicken liver and pear combo which they all enjoyed before they were old enough to realize what they were eating). Would sweeten carrots with parsnips. And juice was still on the menu, though I would try to find the "unsweetened" variety as some juices were more sugar than juice. It all boils down to common sense and a concern for the children's health. Honestly, I still can't get over how chubby the kids nowadays all are. It's kind of pathetic and gross at the same time... I just can't believe that any of these chunky kids are going to grow up to be slender adults, which means they will spend their entire lives overweight. Sad.
