Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

No Opiates for the Masses?


A push to fight painkiller abuse may do more harm than good


It's a complex dilemma, but the Brits figured it out. Offering opiates for patients with severe pain. it seems to me, is more worthwhile than worrying about the few who become serious addicts.

I read a book on pain medication 16 years ago that addressed this problem.
In a nut shell, we shouldn't be worried about addiction at this stage of pain, it's the pain that is the problem.

Once the cause of the pain is fixed, THEN we'll deal with addiction.

Seen people suffer horribly because "they might get addicted".

After almost 8 years of the liberals letting drug users/dealers loose from our prisons, all of a sudden we notice a spike in drug addictions and decided the solution is to limit the amount/number of pain medications to people suffering chronic, serious, long term pain? What a kind, brilliant culture we live in.

When my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer and still at home, he was in great pain because a tumor was wrapping itself around his spine. Aspirin was prescribed,because the MDs didn't want him to become addicted to painkillers. While he was dying of cancer. Fortunately, when my father got hospitalized, he got all the painkillers he needed.

Clearly nobody involved in this restriction has even ever had a headache. It is a luxury never to have been in pain and it is cruel to deny relief to any who has it.

The males in my paternal family line have a genetic defect that greatly suppresses the effect of opiods. My father suffered horribly after back surgery, and I had serious problems when I had knee replacements. In my case, this meant that I went 24 hours after surgery with no effective pain relief at all. Great fun! Eventually, the dosage was adjusted so that the pain was tolerable. The amount required was 3 to 4 times that for the average person. However, I can’t get high on opiods. No euphoria, no buzz, nothing ever. I had to take over 1300 assorted opiod narcotic pills over the next three months. And not one since.

My point is that one size does not fit all but that’s the government’s solution for everything. I have to be in fear of being in an accident or having surgery because I know my pain will not be “managed” due to BS bureaucratic policy. This is just one of a million examples of what happens when government gains control over your life.

And still the politicians and elites don’t understand why Trump is popular or why guns sell so well.
