We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Yup, great story. At the risk of sounding petty, altho I loved the Ratzinger quote below it, I have to tell you that when I worked with people from similar backgrounds in the city, Ratzinger was a perfect beast (he was our Big Boss as Cardinal), judgmental, positively Pharisaical about the lost souls we worked with. If, for example, a Roman Catholic pediatrician nun colleague of mine and I tried, for example, to teach teenagers already parents about birth control (to avoid abortion or another unwanted child) Ratzinger would blow fire and brimstone at us. Of course we taught about abstinence, but we also knew our kids.
