Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Regarding e-mails. Everyone in government service, with a security clearance, knows, from our initial and recurring training, that the letter of the law was broken. I've been "kicked out" of meetings because I didn't have a need to know about certain things. I can't see a proscecutorial discretion not to charge someone. My thought...the administration will drag this out until the next one, when it either dies on vine if a Democrat wins, or it becomes partisan, anti-women, Republican politics.
Thanks or the Camille Paglia link. I always enjoy anything she writes even when I don't agree with her.
With Christopher Hitchens gone, she is one of the few readable and engaging writers remaining on the left of the spectrum now. Re: The American Slave Coast
Interesting stuff here. There is a lot that is not generally understood about slavery in the US and that ignorance redounds to the detriment of people like Jefferson. He is criticized for not freeing his slaves but what is not widely known is that slave owners who freed their slaves had to post a bond to cover costs in the event that the newly freed slave destroyed property. When Jefferson was governor of Virginia, he tried to outlaw slavery (which would presumably negate the need for the bond). Jefferson was broke. In fact he died $100,000 (in 1800 dollars) in debt. He couldn't afford to free his slaves. Not only because he couldn't afford the bond, but his creditors certainly would have regarded them as property and would not be happy about his giving away assets that could be sold to cover his debt. Re: The GOP and the black vote.
The problem is the Democrats have created a welfare plantation and the only way to get the black vote is to offer them more free stuff. They don't want to hear the truth and will howl and call you names if you speak the truth. If you want to help the blacks (and poor whites and Hispanics), than actively began an effort to find and deport illegal immigrants. Place a moratorium on legal immigrations including refugees. Fine and punish employers who hire illegal immigrants. END the H1-b fiasco. End it and send them all home. And finally end welfare. Welfare is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The reason we have 50 million people dependent on food stamps is because it's there. End the redistribution of wealth through our tax system and allow people to succeed or fail on their own. A side note: I shop for steaks on the last Sunday of the month. Why? Because by then the food stamps have run out and the barbecues are over for the weekend. Now think about it. Our 'poor' eat steak with our tax money while our working class has to wait for a sale that happens when the 'poor' use up all their food stamps. Crazy, huh! But there is a kicker. In February the U.S. sells the most steak. Great T-bones and NY strips. Why? Because of the earned income tax credit. Every poor person you see out there especially if they have a baby or three just won the lottery. They trundled off to one of those in big box store tax preparers and filed their taxes and got thousands from other tax payer's pockets. Did you know that February is the best time of year to sell a used car? Thank you to the Liberals in congress redistributing YOUR money to 'poor' people who spend it on steaks and cars. And I might add the reason they can spend it on steaks and cars is because all of their basic needs are also paid for including housing. Is this a great country or what? They calculated that here an unemployed "single mother" with 3 kids can make $53,000 a year in welfare and government assistance and benefits. Is this a great country or what?
Re: Past Time for the GOP to Go Hard for the Black Vote''
Several years ago I had a conversation with a black Republican running for Congress in NC. My advice was to offer school choice to blacks who were getting the short end of the education stick. I don't think he took my advice and I don't know if that would have made a difference, but something like that would be a great start. There might be a chance to strip off some of the black support for Democrats if they can start to change the conversation from "what will you give me" to "what you can do for yourself". Re: ACLU
It should be pretty clear by now that the ACLU has no interest in the Bill of Rights. Please explain how can one not break the law when being "offended" is completely arbitrary. Maybe being given a citation is considered "offensive" by some cultures.
There was another police officer, they should have complained about it and had the offending office cited. . The policeman did issue the citation, but the citation was later voided. From the link at the link:
QUOTE: A university spokesperson confirmed that the citation was later “voided,” adding that the officer who originally responded to the complaint is currently in the training process. Experienced policemen are pretty good at sorting out complaints into actionable complaints. This cop was in training. Just thinking...I don't think the officer can hand out a citation for something he didn't witness. You might check up on that one.
