We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I wonder if this painting was painted around 1816-18? The huge volcanic explosion in 1816 of Tambora in Indonesia affected weather all over the world into 1818. Many in Europe and elsewhere starved to death as harvests failed.
David Hackett Fischer thought the LIA affected New England colonisation greatly. It certainly affected the transmission of mosquito-borne illness.

Don't forget the combination of the Laki Icelandic volcanic eruption and natural cold cycle around 1783 that helped trigger the French Revolution. http://www.livescience.com/30325-iceland-volcano-laki-eruption-cold-winter.html
