Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I want to know if West Virginia has a Knights of Columbus management plan...
Thanks for the laugh.
"West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, Wildlife Division"=your tax dollar$ at work. Glad they are restoring Elk, though.
They did a great job with Turkeys. Sad part: All living things must have government management, especially humans. The Butterflies' Great Migration
This past November, we cruised to Nevus, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, etc. In St. Maarten there is a butterfly farm where we took our 5 year old budding veterinarian and animal enthusiast (he "volunteers" at the Riverbanks Zoo - with his Dad and me of course). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvQg-1-tXys This was a great experience. But to the point there are several monarch butterfly websites where they sell various species of milkweed which monarchs need to breed. http://www.saveourmonarchs.org/store/p17/Milkweed_Seeds.html https://www.livemonarch.com/free-milkweed-seeds.htm and so on. My Grandson already has his milkweed packs and is all ready to go for Spring. The GOP still baffled by the revolt of the peasants "It is not only the slave or serf who is ameliorated in becoming free... the master himself did not gain less in every point of view,... for absolute power corrupts the best natures." Alphonse Marie Louis de Prat de Lamartine -1848 Thanks, Tom, for the reminder about planting milkweed. Such a simple task for so much reward!
Black swallowtails lay their eggs on parsley, so please do not
use any sprays, even if organic on it. We grow parsley with our other herbs. Each year we watch for the tiny swallowtail larva, which we collect and put into containers, with parsley. Amazing to watch, worm to cocoon, to butterfly, to watching them fly away. We do this, so more will survive. With respect to your comment on Huck Finn and Gone With The Wind, I am beginning to believe that the Right gains nothing by asking the rhetorical question "Would it not be simpler just to tell us what is permitted?", since the Left and, more importantly, those who are undecided can't read the comment as sarcasm. A simple statement of fact - that the Left constantly acts to lessen our freedom as Americans in every way - would be better, IMO.
"Obama pushing thousands of new regulations in Year 8"
Number of calendar days until his administration is defunct: 380 Number of US workdays: 262 Too many die untreated due to extended wait times to see a doctor, and those wait times have increased again this year
I thought that was the purpose of the wait times. By having untreated patients die, the cure rates increase for treated patients, proving the Canadian health care system is the best in the world. Same scam the USA's VA used. ...or people get tired of the missed work or poor quality of life resulting from their condition, and seek care in the USA. B.T.D.T.
As a healthcare consumer my best experience has been in Germany, and my most frustrating have been when I was resident of Canada or the UK. The experience in the USA has generally been great in that I get seen right away, but then no-one can agree upon what part of the bill gets paid by whom, or even what parts are legitimate, and it takes a year of pestering people in a deliberately opaque process to get final resolution. Even as a pauper I never had any trouble getting timely care in the USA, something I cannot say about my times living in countries with single-payer free-at-the-point-of-service systems. 1,000+ Migrants Brawl, Rape, Sexually Assault, And Steal
Same thing happened in 1945, except then it was Russian "immigrants." QUOTE: Should ‘Gone with the Wind’ be Banned? Of course not, nor did Lumenick say it should be banned. In any case, it's amazing what you can do with slave labor. QUOTE: MELANIE: I love it as, as more than a house. It's a whole world that wants only to be graceful and beautiful. ASHLEY: And so unaware that it may not last, forever. http://www.cornel1801.com/1/g/GONE_WITH_THE_WIND/2_quotes/World_that_wants_only_to_be_graceful_and_beautiful.html Poor, poor, Ashley. QUOTE: The Community Cost of Reading ‘Huck Finn’ Cost and benefit. You can't ban the n-word, but you can try to be sensitive to the effect on people of color. It depends largely on the maturity of the children, and satire doesn't always translate well. On the other hand, you'd hate to lose Aunt Rachel's life's story because of a word. QUOTE: “Aunt Rachel, how is it that you’ve lived sixty years and never had any trouble?” https://www.pbs.org/marktwain/learnmore/writings.html "God is great because we won!" Ridiculous.
"God is great because it was a great game and no one got hurt!" That one I might let go. Making Huck Finn a banned book is a great way to get kids interested in reading it.
"Would it not be simpler just to tell us what is permitted?"
Let's go with the German idea: Was nicht verpflichtet ist, ist verboten. Was nicht verboten ist, ist verpflichtet. What is not mandatory, is forbidden. What is not forbidden is mandatory. They didn't call themselves National Socialists for nothing, ya know. http://www.theskyboat.com/2016-college-football-playoff-national-championship-jan-11/god-dabo-the-true-heartbeat-of-the-clemson-tigers
