Photo: It's a dumb holiday, meaningless. Drinking until midnight with a silly hat on no longer appeals to me. Never did, really. Furthermore, I am meeting my trainer at our little gym at 5 tomorrow am to get the year started on the right foot. And champagne gives me heartburn.

The tradional 'nuclear' family is not that old, a product of the industrial revolution (a luxury made possible by productivity and wealth). Before that we had extended multigenerational families, largely agricultural, which did not have a man supporting a wife. Insted the whole group (chldren, relatives and all), thrown together by necessity, had to work together to survive.

If you go really way back traditional, a man with any wealth at all had a few wives.

Our own government does the same thing. Illegal aliens killed about 5000 of us in 2010. That was a peak year. Our government not only hides the crimes it hides the data. We have far more illegal aliens than officially reported and the legal immigration stats are intentionally misleading. Where do refugees go when they enter the country? Hillaries emails got more widely distributed than this top secret data. How many come in and when? What diseases do they bring with them. Many exotic diseases are making a comeback in the U.S. including some most of us only know from the bible they are so old. The U.S. is becoming a third world country and there doesn't seem to be any controls on the effort or the process. Immigration over the last 40 years or so has been a deluge seemingly intended to make Americans a minority in their own country. Many of them have no intention of assimilating and in fact intend to change us to a two language country divided by language and culture. This is a recipe for disaster and it is unlikely that the U.S. will survive it.

Just 14 Percent... 11 of the 12 occupied properties I can see from mine have traditional families. In 40 years, I recall one time seeing a police car parked in front of a neighor's house for something or other. They had two roaming teen boys at the time, and I suspect it had to do with one of them. In driving around, I sense the entire neighborhood is the same. Of course I'm in the deepest, as yet un-yankeefied South. We're way behind times down here, and I do all I can to keep it that way - behind times and un-yankeefied that is.

How Three Professors Banded Together to Beat Back a Free Speech Threat at Clemson

There's a little more to that story which hasn't received much attention - which is that a huge majority of Clemson students were going to counter this extortion attempt with a petition of their own. The "Coalition" was a very small (extremely small one might say) group of students who were trying to capitalize on momentum of the "movement". Also noted locally, the "professors" who supported the "Coalition" weren't even fully aware of what they signed on to. Which goes a long way toward explaining what is actually going on in universities today.

I am very glad my two Granddaughters are going to a faith based university - they are getting a top shelf classical education as well as a good solid moral and ethical foundation for future success. Of course it's costing me a freakin' arm and a leg, but hey...

In the Cleaver era, there weren't that many traditional families on TV either. Usually, at least one parent was dead or there were no children. See also the long line of children's books of orphaned, one-parent, or sick-parent children.
