Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The snake lobby article looked like it was meant to be a subtle attack on the gun lobby.
Most noticeably NON-subtle, suprahz, surprahz. Assault snakes, automatic snakes--what is the world coming to?
From the right-wing echochamber:
QUOTE: SEVEN YEARS AGO TODAY… Al Gore Predicted North Pole Would Be Ice Free in Five Years Al Gore: “Some of the models suggest that there is a 75 percent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during some of the summer months, could be completely ice-free within the next five to seven years." {Gore's emphasis} Well, if the models can't get it right 5 years out, why do you have so much confidence in them?
feeblemind: Well, if the models can't get it right 5 years out, why do you have so much confidence in them?
There's a great deal of fluctuation around the trend line, so it's quite possible for the arctic ice to hit bottom with some reasonable probability. There's also a feedback effect, as sea water has lower albedo than sea ice. The effect of the feedback is chaotic, so models differ. Most models project around 2050 as the most likely date for the end of summer Arctic sea ice, but some studies project a more precipitous decline. The trendline is clear, though. http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/files/2015/10/monthly_ice_09_NH.png Of course, that assumes business as usual. Humans are altering their habits. U.S. emissions have already begun to decline, even as population and GDP have increased. Meanwhile, the Chinese have come to the realization that they can't continue to develop without modernizing their energy sector. I remember when the models that led Democrats astray looked good in bikinis.
These models these days claim to be hot, but when you get up close, their hideous nature is revealed. So, in other words, if the climate lobby talks about a 'consensus' of science showing man-made climate change is happening, I should ignore it b/c 75% of the time they will be wrong? Gotcha.
MissT: So, in other words, if the climate lobby talks about a 'consensus' of science showing man-made climate change is happening, I should ignore it b/c 75% of the time they will be wrong?
While the overall heat content of the climate system continues to increase, the distribution of this excess heat is chaotic. Hence, surface temperatures will tend to increase over time, but sometimes the oceans will absorb most of the heat, sometimes the ice, or sometimes the atmosphere. In any case, the right-wing echochamber echos distortions, as with Al Gore's statement concerning Arctic summer ice. Keep preaching it, sister!
Mr. Al Gore is RIGHT! 75% of the Scienec Is Settled. On three out of four some alternate universies, the Arctic is free of ice. These concservative people are in total denial over this. "distribution of this excess heat is chaotic"
But the surface temperature isn't tending to increase? It is flat. And just to clarify your post: chaotic |kāˈätik| adjective in a state of complete confusion and disorder: So the predictions are based on an alleged heat distribution that is in a state of complete confusion and disorder. Got it. JK Brown: But the surface temperature isn't tending to increase? It is flat.
Surface temperatures have increased by about 0.11 °C/decade since 1950 (HadCRUT4). JK Brown: And just to clarify your post: chaotic |kāˈätik| adjective, in a state of complete confusion and disorder: In science, chaotic refers to deterministic chaos, dynamical systems sensitive to initial conditions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_theory

That's right! It was hot last night, now it's cold this Morning. All this is too bovious for words. Global Warming is here and now.

How much have they increased since 1900, 1850, 1800?

HadCRUT4 starts in 1850.
Since 1850, 0.048°C/decade Since 1900, 0.075°C/decade Since 1950, 0.11 °C/decade

And those minor changes (if they are truly based on accurate temperature readings...since there has been a ton of evidence to suggest the numbers in recent decades have been fiddled with) are only what the earth does...climate changes. We have never denied that climate changes. We have had mini-ice ages in our human history as well as warming periods. There is no doubt about that at all.
The 'denial' part of the equation comes from the ridiculous notion that man is the cause of this. I think it is a perfectly reasonable theory to reject, since the earth's climate has always changed. Even before man was around to do anything impactful. You will never convince me otherwise. Especially now that we are told warming AND cooling is man-made. So, in other words, ANY weather anomaly of any kind can be linked to man. Nothing else could possibly be causing these changes. It MUST be man made. That is not science. That is a cult.

The data concerning the temperature anomaly has withstood many different statistical tests. MissT: are only what the earth does...climate changes. Except that the current warming trend is largely artificial, and projected to be beyond anything since human civilization began. MissT: You will never convince me otherwise. Then your position isn't based on evidence.

The idea that America, or Europe, needs millions of uneducated, illiterate migrants is total nonsense. Just like in the US, we have millions of Europeans from Spain, France, Italy, Denmark who are highly educated and trained engineers, technicians, mechanics, etc. who can't find work.
And somehow we are lead to believe that this stream of illiterates who's culture and background are completely opposed to ours and everything the west has developed over hundreds of years, are suddenly going to save our future. It's just total nonsense. But if to say that out loud, one is quickly labeled a xenophobe, islamaphobe or whatever the liberal left wants to brand us, as a way to shut us up. Visit Venice Italy or Paris France and look around at who's selling knock-off handbags and jewelry or trying to steal your wallet or purse. That's the real future of immigration. Men are so lazy: As is the WaPo, printing this.
Given that Israel's attackers are not covered by the Geneva Conventions, and do not abide by them, Israel's restraint is admirable, if possibly suicidal. If Israel attacked them as Israel has been accused of, there would be danged few Palis left to fight. |
