We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Helicoptered kids are such a drag to be around. No spontaneity, no self-starting behaviors (since everything, including their social life, is organized for them), and very little interest in the outside world.
Recently read an article claiming that helicopter parents are just bad parents. And I agree. I was a helicopter parent and reflecting back on my days as the mother, I did not trust my own teaching skills to keep my child safe, nor did I trust his common sense. Fortunately, my son was so busy enjoying life and exploring his world, he did not even know I was there. Also, I'm invisible....that helps.
