Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

And in the US as in Europe, they are also coming by government invitation. They are offered homes, money, food, and welcoming groups of young women handing out blankets, language lessons, etc. Free stuff. In Germany and Sweden, though, there is really no honest work for a Somali immigrant if they even wanted it. That's why you see them running scams and stealing luggage all across Europe these days. George Bush was right when he talked about jobs that poor and unskilled Americans did not want to do, even though he was mocked for it. America has and had plenty of need for unskilled and semi-skilled labor, but Americans passed on that low-paid work while the Guatemalans and Mexicans jumped on those jobs with pleasure. Now they own those jobs - and those small businesses - while the native poor Americans who supposedly have learned American values and the American Constitution remain on food stamps. Bill Clinton, to his credit, tried to deal with that but illegal immigration won. When I wonder out loud why these hundreds of thousands of fit young men with their iPhones hiking into Europe don't apply themselves to building futures in their own homes, I am termed a racist. But isn't it racist to assume that young, strong and clearly well-fed young men with iPhones are helpless in their own homelands? Now Merkel Says Germany Must Step Up World Role in Refugee Crisis
Good luck with that, Angela. You and Sweden, stupidly, created the crisis, and you and Sweden alone will bear the consequences.

Imagine the irony if Merkel lets enough Muslims in that she lives long enough to be in the minority. Imagine Sharia becoming the law of the land and she not being able to even leave home without a male escort and no woman ever being allowed to vote or hold public office again.
Heh. I wonder what will be going through her myopic, ideologically rigid brain if that day comes? "...jobs that poor and unskilled Americans did not want to do"
It's more a self fulfilling prophecy than anything else. If there had been no legal or illegal immigration in the past 50 years or so all those jobs would still have been filled and we would have more citizens working and fewer on welfare. Simple solution (and very fair too); All employees employing a non-citizen pays the costs associated with hiring an alien worker. Enough to cover the costs of additional schools and teachers, doctors and hospitals, police and jails, uninsured motorist coverage, unemployment and welfare for the citizens pushed out of jobs, compensation for the families of the 3000 or so killed by illegals and the 3,000,000 or so sexually molested by illegals and the 300,000 or so injured by drunk driving illegals, etc. I have seen estimates of about $300-$500 billion for the federal government alone and no doubt an equal amount for the various states. Let the employer pay these costs or hire citizens. What could be more fair? Hm, honestly, I think the problems began when they added rules on to teen labor and increased minimum wage. How does a teen compete with an immigrant? The teen can only work certain hours during the school year, while the immigrant can work 7 days a week and any schedule. The teen would work for less money, but the government forces businesses to pay the minimum wage.
Why is it that people in their 50s and older remember having jobs at 10, 12, 14...while people who are in their 40s and younger don't (or very few)? Because there was NO ONE who will hire you if you are 12, 13, 14. You are restricted as a kid from working, people are worried about being sued, so they won't hire a kid, many places won't hire anyone under 16 and many won't hire anyone under 18. The only places you can still find teens working? Small towns with very few immigrants. So, no, I don't believe it. There are jobs that regular Americans will do, but the immigrants have displaced those regular Americans...some of that is b/c of work rules for kids. Right now there is a sign on our local Burger King that says "Hiring Over 18 starting at $9/hour." So that excludes almost ALL high school kids from even applying. No matter the kid's aptitude, work ethic or schedule. Back in the day, my grandparents were - in a sense - economic migrants. But they came from the UK and what they got was an opportunity to do well - or starve to death. No welfare, no health benefits, just the opportunity to work hard and - if fortunate - succeed.
Across the prairies in the late 1800's the promise was similar: a grant of land and the chance you would starve to death, or die in a prairie fire, or succumb to disease. That's the promise that brought my other grandparents west (sort of, somewhat, as I've always referred to my maternal grandmother as a "remittance woman"). My spouse's family is somewhat different: we know when they came West but not when they came to Canada (or, as it most probably was, New France). Do have a clue in that there is a town in Angoleme, France, which is identical to our surname. Have a vision of a ne'er-do-well skipping town, heading out to the New World, and then thumbing his nose at the worthies back home by taking the name of his home town as his surname. Bill Clinton didn't "try to deal with it." He was forced to deal with it by a Republican congress. Left to his own devices, Billy would have handed out more free stuff.
There were 250,000 "refugees" let in to Germany the year before. There are an estimated 300,000 unregistered aliens in the country as we speak. Germany anticipates 800,000 this year alone, as a conservative estimate. This is the entire population of Frankfurt.
80% of these refugees are low skilled and almost all of them can't speak the language at all. Germany has 2,500,000 unemployed on "Hartz IV" welfare. Basically after this year, Germany will have at least 3,500,000 unemployed on Hartz IV welfare. There is a debate about integration to be had, but a priori most of these migrants are of entirely alien race, culture and religion and it will be hard to integrate these people over many generations. Merkel's foolish invitation for all the world to have a go at it is the road to national suicide for Germany. The social safety net is a disincentive for people to work. You get a $40000 a year income for not working. Some people given that choice will not work. Some immigrants will take those benefits too.
Unfortunately, the entire Western world and beyond will bear the consequences of Merkel's actions. As the chaos spreads, average people will turn to whomever promises to restore order. History reminds us of who that will be. Europe will again see fascism spread and this time it will not be easy to get rid of.
