We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
To delete or diminish the VA, he's have to get the VFW,
Am. Lgn., and other big veterans' organizations on his side: What do they want, how do they want it, where do they want it, what should be kept, and what not kept.
Remember Rick Perry got in trouble when he said they needed to close 3 government agencies and he couldn't remember which three? He should have said something like "Oh hell, throw the magnetic refrigerator alphabet at the and just pick three agencies. Keep Defence and Justice and flush the rest!"
VA? Give vouchers and turn them loose.
Education? First return money as block grants, then reduce taxes and block grants.
HUD? First return money as block grants, then reduce taxes and block grants.
PBS? First... Are you getting my drift? Etc. Etc. Etc.
It could be easy. First make it optional; in the case of the VA allow veterans to go to any health care provider for their care paid for by the VA. Second pay off the special interests; again the VA has hospitals in districts of influential congressmen so give the congressmen/district something else in place of the VA facility.
This is the perfect answer for Obamacare: first make it optional and second require that everyone choosing Obamacare pay their own way.
The EPA should be handled differently however. Appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the wrongdoing and collusion. Assign "real" scientists to the prosecutor to wade through the crap.
Ditto for any legislative or judicial action that required a money transfer from the federal government to individuals/lawyers. Example of this is the Pigford settlement. Appoint a special prosecutor and bring the fraudulent cases to court.
Ditto for Medicare/Medicaid fraud. Billions in fraudulent claims.
