Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Oh, oh. Oh, now I remember why the US Schools are so determined to keep the study of Geography out of the curriculum.
Given Seattle's reliance on China to fund their over extended economy, I should not be surprised if this group of Chinese make their next visit to the Port of Seattle. In the meantime you can see their military off the coast of Alaska. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-34131429 Thanks for the link to "The Dark Side". Seems to be in my area of interest.
What's still amazing to me is that I opened another tab with my local library network, found that they had the book. I clicked on HOLD, it was available as a Kindle book so I selected that format. The library sent me to Amazon's library section, I logged into Amazon. The book was/is downloaded to my Kindle. I can start reading it. It all took less time than I just spent commenting on it. Much about the 21st Century is a disappointment but that impresses me. I'm Amazon-clean for the last 14 weeks, but I still keep the account open for this kind of thing. Sure enough, I opened the Kindle and there it was, plus it offered to narrate the book to me audibly. And so it is as I write.
Literally BD, your mouth to my ear. Scary. For a different perspective on CA's Uber ruling:

What We Owe the Syrian Boy in the Surf"
"We"? "We" are not his killers. He is "owed" by his parents, family, and nation. Take the child's photo and paste it around Medina. "What We Owe the Syrian Boy in the Surf"
Out of context as this story is we owe him nothing anymore than we owed the lion in Africa or the victim of a swimming accident something. But in context what is really being asked here is either we (America and a handful of Western countries) MUST put boots on the ground in every civil war or remote conflict OR we must tax our already overtaxed citizens to pay for and support hoardes of refugees. WHich do you want? The liberals and Obama in particular do not want to fight in someone elses wars or protect innocents with force (I tend to agree although I'm conflicted). The Liberals do want to tax the middle class into poverty and bring refugees here to collect welfare forever UNTIL it hurts them. We are very lucky/unlucky (take your pick) because we are going to see the fruits of the latter of those two tough choices unfold in Europe. Will Europe/Germany simply absorb millions of refugees who will once ensconced in Europe living off the dole become militant and demanding? Will the European/German people roll over and give up their money, social institutions and future so that millions of ungrateful refugees can live the good life and demand their culture dominate? I'm guessing there will be a resentment that will swell to an uprising that inevitably will end in bloodshed perhaps civil war. Think not? Can you say "Syrian lives matter" in German? Remember that Europeans have no means to defend themselves against their governments or the jihadi hordes those governments are knowingly and willingly bringing into their countries (for short term political gains for themselves, cushy EU jobs and UN appointments sponsored by the dhimmis in charge of France and Germany).
There is a lot of resentment and anger, but the people are pretty much helpless to do anything about it. Obummer said two years ago, that if the Assad regime used a chemical weapon against it's own people, that would entail crossing the now famous "red line" which the United States would not tolerate.
They crossed it, unchallenged, many times. Obummer then announced that, "It wasn't my red line, but the world's red line." Now they drop barrel bombs filed with chlorine from helicopters on their own people. The Assad's of the world have quickly figured out that outside of drone strikes from 10,000 ft. on the Taliban, and A-10's strafing ISIS positions once a week, they have nothing to fear from our fearless leader. But God help a climate change denier. They are in deep shit. The CA labor board's ruling reflects the NLRB's attempt to make all McDonald's franchisee employees McD's employees, and not franchisee employees.
RE Parents Frivolously Sue School over Nonexistent Wi-Fi Sickness. Why Are Courts Actually Giving Them a Chance?
typically ignorant article on the law. the courts are neutral at this stage. its too early in the process. the defense hasn't gone on the attack to show that the claim is bullshit. here's how federal courts actually evaluate scientific testimony and evidence In re: A good magazine: Yankee Magazine
Used to be way better which is why I dropped them twenty years ago... "Marx Materializes at the Border - The migrants overwhelming Europe force the socialists to confront the global mess they created. "
nope, they only see more potential people to vote for them after being lured by free money leeched from the few remaining taxpayers, more soldiers in the class war against the working class and their silly ideas about wanting to keep some of the proceeds of the work they do. |
