Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

It is expected to be a model regulatory system for the whole country: In the nation’s capital, a new business to regulate: D.C.’s personal trainers


Like so many regulations (manicurists? barbers?), I understand that part of the impetus comes from protection of existing guilds, but why can't government just leave people alone to pursue their honest trades?

I think Texas had the right idea when they limited the legislature to convening for 140 days every odd numbered year. And they still end up with nonsense like this.

Glassman (CF) is right on this one although I'm not convinced that his motivation is purely ideologic rather than financial. Unfortunately, this is rent seeking at its worst and Gassman/CrossFit, with his crass behavior, has thoroughly destroyed any political connections he could have developed over the years to help in this fight. As one blogger put it, "CrossFit is like the super-rich hillbilly who belches loudly at a fancy dinner party - he’s got more money and more power than you, and he ain’t-a-gonna apologize." Well, now CF is dealing with people who have more power and more money and they may end up having to give up the fancy dinner and eat crow.
