here's an idea. If poor kids, just like rich kids, really want to go to college, they could - instead of playing video games or hanging out at the mall- study, get a job, do umpteen things from the FREE resources at the library- you know books, study books, internet to prepare.

That presumes that those poor students will read things such as your comments and not go by the praise for "low level" work they get at their government school from government bureaucrats.

The big problem is that the kids do everything they are suppose to do, that their teachers tell them to do, and when they graduate, they discover they aren't qualified due to the low quality of government, and even private, education in many districts.

That was my other thought.

That publik edukashun has failed.

AFter common core started filtering out I went on the Dept of Ed website and they pretty much admitted that PE is a failure.

So we need more money. THat's all it is.
That and they push EVERYONE to go to college.
Not everyone is suited for college and not every job requires college.
Not that making the most money ensures happiness, but the people I know that make the most aren't college educated.

The most insidious impact is that kids are conditioned to do what their teachers demand and presume that if they do that, they will be educated.

This makes them resistant to outsiders pointing out things they should be learning. Or that they should actually supplement the sources.

A big part of this is that the kids need to regurgitate certain facts on the test, accurate or inaccurate, to pass and their survival strategy becomes to pass the test. With the added homework schools pile on after using no more than 2 hours of the 7-8 hr school day for actual instruction ensures that a kid who is diligent won't have time to seek out other information.

Throw in the "peer" atmosphere that denigrates learning and doing well in school to the point of not only ostracizing but violence against the striver, and the bright kid is screwed.

It wasn't enough that we are giving terrorists $150B and access to the oil market without even a suggestion they would change their behavior. It wasn't enough that the Iranian regime still chants "Death to America, Death to Israel". It wasn't enough that the inspection regime required almost a month of warning before an inspection took place. It wasn't enough that US inspectors were barred from any inspections. It wasn't enough that the arms embargo on Iran would be lifted. It wasn't enough that Iran already broke the deal when Quds Force commander, Soleimani, who is responsible for thousands of US deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan, visited Putin in Moscow. And it wasn't enough that we are obligated to defend Iran nuclear sites against attack. But now, we find out that the UN is fine with Iran inspecting their own nuclear sites.

Demoncrats still come out in support of this deal (not treaty - thank you US Senate). How evil/stupid can a person be?

Destructive! And mass invasion by what we choose to call "illegal aliens" is not destructive? Trump has brought the "anchor baby" problem into the national discussion. Some believe the 14th amendment was written for Mexican and Chinese women so they could come here and push out a citizen and then hold the country hostage where we would be forced to allow them and all their relatives become citizens on welfare forever. It was not. It was explicitly for slaves in the 1860's who were at risk of being denied citizenship. Let's let congress end it once and for all with legislation that would end the anchor baby loophole.
But if congress cannot or does not then let's at least deal with the problem honestly: Deport the parents and family, let them decide to either leave their "anchor baby" behind or take it with them. Demand that they pay child support until the child turns 18. Make it obvious by law and action that anyone who does this can never enter this country again and if they snealin they get jail time. Our choice it to be held hostage by criminals misusing our system or to stand up and enforce the law. Everything we stand for and have depends on this. We are losing our country.

I sometimes listen to ABC Radio through the internet--that is Australian Broadcast--not American. As some of you may have heard the Australian government has done an amazing act of rules turnaround for a special project and group. The coal ore loading dock that is planned for a site on the Great Barrier Reef is being loudly protested by Australians. Yesterday's talk radio conversation about this project had several very good comments. First it is important to know that there are other coal loading docks in other parts of the Australian coast--they are just not as close to the mine or the Reef as this newly proposed dock. The most important observations went something like this: why are we doing this for an Indian owned company, when our own docks are not be fully used? Why are we supporting this particular company with subsidies? AND most important. Why is it that [b]WALL ST[b] is controlling who/what we subsidized with Australian money? For those of you who don't think we should care about what goes on in other countries this story may be of interest to you.
