We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The Republicans (andDemocrats) are in denial over Trump's success. It is mostly because he is outspoken on stopping illegal immigration and returning the illegals to their home country. They would prefer to blame his popularity on almost anything but that issue. They will nodoubtcontinue this head in the sand approach well past the primary. Forthat is their last hope; that the American voters (and the many illegal voters, will trounce Trump and select the great hope for politics as usual (Jeb Bush). They may be right. The American public seems to prefer to sleepwalk through their country's suicide. Time will tell if we wake up in time to turn this invasion around. Meanwhile back at the border records are being broken.
I'm not a Trump fan. I like a several things I've heard from him, but I'm wary of just how conservative he is and I'm not sure that his "undisciplined" comments won't make it more difficult to to do some of the things he says he wants to do. I also not sure how much his business negotiating skills transfer to the political arena - they may be a huge asset, I'm not sure.
I don't see him going away - at least not till the field gets whittled down a lot. The press, establishment politicians and advisers, and the commentariat severely misjudge the frustration and anger at politicians the public has. Scott Walker is deemed to be too much of an insider/politician even though he's proved he can do the things that most conservatives want done even in a blue state. The people who are having an outsized inpact on this primary season are those who are furthest from politics - Trump, Carson, and Fiorina. Everybody else seems terribly uninteresting at the moment. This even applies to the democrats with B.S.
Getting back to Trump, it could be difficult to knock him off. The immigration issue has the most juice now and opponents who try to get on the anti-illegal-immigration bandwagon will look more like politicians which will make it even harder for them. Somebody else will have to come up with other issue(s) that light a similar fire under voters while maintaining what is perceived to be a genuine anti-illegal-immigration stance.
